I must be lucky. I received 2 phone calls today from 2 totally different companies. YRC did a phone interview and told me they would get back to me. I live in Ma so I hope that they are busy in my area. Then ,I got a call from Transgas. They haul LNG / Liquefied Natural Gas. But that's all they do. YRC hauls just about everything. I would like to get at least a 40 hour week from either one. But, with Transgas I am not sure if they have enough work to keep me busy. They do Pay about $25.00 an hour. So, if I only worked 20+ hours I still would do alrite. They are both union. I would be a spare with both companies till I got on the list. But, I have reservations about Transgas. They have been advertising for drivers for years. On again off again. whats up with that? If the pay & benefits are so good why do they need drivers? They, Transgas told meI would be on call nights or days or weekends. Could work 20 hours one week and 50+ the next. Then who knows? You need 3 years exp. clean driving record with a hazmat/tanker. But to me anyway's they are not as diversified as YRC. I could work the dock also at YRC. Transgas does LNG & that's it. So, with these 2 companies which is the best bet? Thanks.

What terminal did you apply to YRC? I used to run the road for them and been the two terminals I'm MA. They used to have one in Springfield but it closed last year
-
I applied at their Shrewsbury Terminal. . I also applied at New Penn ,their affiliate. They are in Billerica, Ma. Both jobs are described as local P&D/Dock Worker. Is Shrewsbury a busy terminal with enough work? What about New Penn in Billerica MA? Even if it gets slow I can get by with 20 hours a week. On the other hand , from what I am reading LNG fuel "may" be the fuel of the future for the trucking industry. If that's the case, Transgas will have more than enough work. But, that's based on speculation. I have not seen too many trucks converted from diesel to LNG as of yet.

Last year after the change of operations Shrewsbury was extremely busy and they couldn't find guys. They were offering road drivers from our terminal to go their and do city work for a few days. I used to go to quite a few customers for them on my way back to Maybrook for them. Inhave no idea if they are still like that now.
We at UPSF have natural gas trucks now. Not at my terminal but at the hub. Last I heard the tanks were just being set up -

Hey, Just to update this I accepted a job with YRC. After which, New Penn called me. I had to tell them YRC already made me a conditional offer. "The 2 hour doubles yard &road test" had to be the most all inclusive one I ever done. Drove city & highway and residential with doubles, which I never drove before. But, I passed . They hired a couple other drivers besides myself. So, I will start next week and be on a trail bases for a couple of weeks. Then, go from there. It is local P&D/ Dock. But, I think they do linehaul also. 90% of their trailers are pups with a lot of dollies in the yard. If the opportunity comes up I may look into that depending on the days and hours vs commuting everyday.
Big Don Thanks this. -
2 hours? Dam they are doing my background check now. Is that just for p&d? I'm setup for line haul.
-
That's what I went through. Combination of pre-trip and hooking/unhooking doubles And,driving around the yard. . That was about an hour. then the road test was about another hour. But, I don't know what every terminals road test involves. Your mileage may vary. Good Luck!

I,ve heard you don't get benefits Union wise from them. They are on life support from what I heard.
At the most it's a good paying job. Good Luck
