Just curious what you guys think was the best production years for 379 EXD. And by best I'm not talking about motor or tranny, just lest problematic, most comfortable and fun to drive

Cats and door mounted mirrors
Yup Yup -
I had an '88 and a '96. I liked the unibilt, slightly better. It also had a drink rack where I could put my megasized cup. Other than, the '88 looked better. Dual horns, cleaners and stacks.
exhausted379 Thanks this. -

Love my 99, always liked the 01-03 because , the 6NZ cat was a little better than the 2ws. Now that the new EOBR mandate is out I like the 99 better, And the 2ws is holding up well. All of those years were practically the same. Definitely like the door mounted mirrors better.

Nothing more beautiful than the older pete's that are respected and loved by their owners! Made trip to Augusta ,ga about three week back, seen two older pete's on the road , about mid to early 80's models, looked like two high priced models on a walkway. Nice long hoods, single sleepers, duel stacks ,duel breathers, duel horns with covers, shiney alum wheels, fuel tanks polished up and a nice paint job. Makes yearn for those days that are long since passed.

I have owned a '98 and an '03.
I liked the '98 better.
on the '98 the tilt steering pivoted from a lower point.
I liked the door mounted arm rest better.
The '98 had practically no rattles when I traded it with 656k miles on it.
I liked the dash and switch layout much better. Switches up high . Easy to see and reach.
The 2003.
The dash is made of thin plastic. It buzzes when lugging the engine. Don't like the location of many of the switches.
I would like to put the older dash and steering column in my 2003. Plus the old armrests.
But that costs money, and I'm cheap.
Plus, everything works. Best to leave well enough alone.
Might buy one more new Peterbilt in my lifetime. And it better not rattle or buzz. I think it will get a thorough test drive. -
I've never had or driven one but I used to work at company years ago and we delivered a lot of freight to the Peterbilt plant in Madison, TN (now closed down) and Denton, TX. I remember the 2007 last production year of the 379 they came out with the limited edition 379X. Those polished aluminum fenders and the factory installed stainless 7" stacks. The visor. Those were sweet looking rigs right from the factory... My favorite and I'm a KW fan. Every time I see one I want it. Probably the next truck I get will be a 379X if I can ever find a cherry one that has been taken care of.
