Yellow, the beleaguered trucking company that received a $700 million pandemic loan from the federal government, notified staff Friday that it is shutting down and laying off employees at all of its locations.

The move comes before an expected bankruptcy filing by Yellow in the coming days. The closure of the company would mean the loss of approximately 30,000 jobs and mark the end of a business that just three years ago was deemed so critical to the nation’s supply chains that it warranted a federal bailout.

In reality, Yellow was not a critical supply chain link. I say follow the $700 million.

Seems like most views were covered in the previous post, and this should come as no surprise, it's just another in the long line of examples of our countries decline. I don't want to start a union gripe, but a family member is greatly affected by the current writers strike in Hollywood, a strike some say could have devastating effects on entertainment. Am I upset for the Hollywood crybabies,,hardly, but a failure of this magnitude that could impact shipping of our , or other nations goods, is a big deal. I'm sure many private carriers are making plans for their new mansions here, as their business will flourish, if they can find drivers. I don't think many ex-Yellow drivers are going to work for "Happy, Go Lucky" Trucking. A bloody shame, it is. Heck, I remember a time, when union and non-union worked side by side, each knowing their territory, and there was enough freight for all. I suppose, it's a great time for a gloater like me, but I realize, that solves nothing, and just another in the "and now this" episodes of our time.

It seems to me that a company that has been in business that long and was that large will have a hard time accounting for the loss of 700 million dollars and the rest of their capital too. Will be interesting to watch from the sidelines....
