Any drivers out there playing World of Warcraft? If so, how do you connect to the internet while playing, and do you use any type of voice chat. I'm mostly wondering how well the different types of internet connections(WiFi, Wireless broadband from someone like Verizion) work when playing. If possible some example latency would be nice. Thanks.

I would be watching this thread. Hopefully some FPS gamers would also respond as I'm dying to know what are the latency of cellular based internet connection and if their any good for FPS gaming. If you are a FPS gamer using cellular networks, please respond and kindly give you ping times as well. :)

Thanks for thinking this one up. :)

use the wireless card to the pc. it would be more secure while gaming. wifi is an unsecured connection. while gaming your computer would be easier to hack, then again it depends on the server you play on.
the wireless cards use radio frequency,so the connection will not be interrupetd. good luck with it.
i havent played warcraft yet. looking forward to the movie..

My codriver and I have a Sprint aircard, and the latency varies from place to place. If we're near a big city and can get a high speed connection, it's playable. I wouldn't recommend running an instance, since the signal can sometimes fade a bit, or up the latency, but for questng an chatting it's fine, and soloing is usually fine too. I haven't had a lot of time to play WoW, but my codriver does, and he says it works out okay. He has 2 accounts, and he can manage to group them together and go quest for a few hours without problems.

i used to play and quit the warcrack almost a year ago, and don't plan on checking out cataclysm. blizzard has catered to the carebear types of people. they have ruined the game even more with the paid faction changes. talk about trivializing everything within the lore itself! wow's community is also the worst out of all the mmo's in the market.

i had an orc hunter that has remained guildess for its near 4 years of existence. my human warrior was guilded for half the time, but i guild hopped a lot. i ended up retiring that toon to mess around on my orc huntard. i enjoyed ganking and griefing other players on the pvp server, archimonde. my huntard's original home is tichondrius.

I've been playing since launch. Kirin Tor is my stomping grounds. Run a Prot war named Otung and a mutt rogue named Pouder. If any of you find yourselves in my neck of the woods be sure to say hi.

Also, was just curious if there were any updates in the quest to find reliable interwebs when out in the truck. Start school next week so I'll be looking to purchase service soon. Currently bouncing around sprint and verizon. ATT's roaming charges are just ridiculous and their coverage area sucks.

Well, after nearly 3 years with a Sprint Aircard, and4R months with a Motorola Droid, I would say don't get the aircard. Sprint's not bad if you are where their network's strongest, but if you're going to be all over, you're going to find yourself on WoW with a 700 ping.

If you don't have a phone, or you're looking to upgrade, i'd recommend a Verizon smartphone of some sort. If you get an Android based phone, or a Blackberry, you can get a product called pdanet for $30 one time fee, that allows you to tether your phone, without paying the $30 a month tethering fee. I asked Verizon about it, and their answer was (at least for my Droid) that it's not supported by them, but they don't proihibit it's use. The only thing they cautioned me was to limit the bandwidth to under 5 gigs a month and I should be okay. Since all aircards are limited to that amount anyway, I don't have a problem with that.

You could also try for a wifi account through a major truckstop, but I've found those connections to be mediocre at best. Trucks rumbling by, rain, and bad parking spots make it unreliable.

    Lythium Thanks this.
