Hello I was wondering if anyone has or is working for Ryder? I have a interview with them coming up and was looking for any information. I would be regional at $.56/mile with a guarantee of 1,800 miles/ a week and $18/stop with minimum 22 stops a week. Thank you. Love this forum and all the great info people post

I worked for ryder for over a year. They have driver facing cameras and will endlessly harass you over every little thing. Ive had Lytx cameras at several other companies but nothing set them off as easily as ryders cameras. Slightly touching your brake will set the camera off and you will immediately get called and yelled at. Dont even think of touching your phone if you work for them, not for gps, not to answer calls, nothing. Out of my “team” of 5 drivers I was the only one who lasted a year. Most others with far more experience than me only lasted a few months max before being fired. You will be dealing with managers who have no clue how HOS work, or anything about trucking really. Other than that they were ok. They maintain their trucks and take safety very seriously so you wont be forced to do anything dangerous.

Youll be dealing with office morons who have no clue what driving a truck is like. Most of my managers were respectful but I finally quit after getting a really crazy one who yelled at me and told me to “reassess myself” after a car cut me off and I slightly hit the brakes since I wasnt even close to them but wanted to maintain my distance which was nearly impossible when driving in heavy traffic.

    So what?

Sounds pretty much like driving for your typical trucking company nowadays....to me.

Never worked directly for them but one of my former employers used Ryder leased power and we were restrained to using nothing but Ryder facilities for fuel and service. Spent A LOT of time around Ryder drivers directly employees by Ryder. Years ago they weren’t bad to work for but as Jsanborn posted above, they have turned into micromanaging morons. Several of their long term(15 & 20 year guys) left or were terminated with the advent of the Lytex inward and outward facing cameras. The office idiots second guessed and monitored everything drivers were doing. None of the guys that left that I knew did anything egregious to warrant the scrutiny they were put under. They were constantly dealing with writeups and the like for actions of other vehicles and being told “they were not being defensive” enough when being cut off. I would NEVER consider going to work for them.

The minimums you outlined translate to about 70k a year. If you have bills to pay and no choice they are survivable but there not enough there yearly to put up with their crap, in my opinion. You can do 70k or better somewhere else with a lot less hassle. Have you considered any of the LTL’s?

I just got off the phone with a recruiter from Ryder who is trying to set me up in a similar position is what you have described. I would not consider it to be ideal for what I want but it seems like the job market is really drying up right now for CDL jobs and if I absolutely must take something, which I neither need to nor expect that I should have to, I might consider doing something with them in the short term probably just to get their sign on bonus money and get the heck away from them if there is bad as some have described.

My biggest concern is that for the job they want to hire me for it seems like they should be paying me an hourly rate rather than a mileage rate. This seems to have changed since they bought out Cardinal which actually paid pretty well all things considered.
