Want to get some thoughts from you all about Speeding thru a Road Construction Work Zone
not sure what section of forum it fits into, so posting here.

What reasons do so many rigs (and 4-wheelers) speed thru Work Zones?

I just don't get it. Speed limits in general aren't followed, but in the Work Zone??? where fines can be a lot more, where added danger exists with narrow lanes, loose material such as dirt or concrete chunks, on and on.

My truck is governed at 65 so can't really speed on the open highway. But when I enter a Work Zone, yes I slow to exactly the posted speed limit (slower if conditions warrant it).

The beef I have is I feel going the posted speed is almost a danger when people riding my rear bumper, or passing me in narrow lanes.

So I try to think about what reasons are drivers doing this? Its hard for me to come up with anything that makes sense - Why put your driving record at risk, and potential for expensive citation?

I'd really like to hear some answers to this.

Maybe you all are like me - angels about not speeding.
Look I'm not one who follows every rule by the book at all times. Just this one I don't think the blantant risks are worth it.

For example, very early Monday morning I was southbound on i-65 into Birmingham, AL where the i-65/i-20/-i-59 intersection is all torn up with construction....Posted speed says 40 MPH STRICTLY ENFORCED

So there I am in the dark before dawn slowing to 40, while a handful of trucks passed me one by one doing 65 if not 70 mph! Then getting on i-20 East the speed is still posted 40, although the road work kinda isn't really there, but still its posted, and cars/trucks both flying around me like I'm an idiot.

When those speeds are posted and there is no real work going on, I get frustrated too, but sure as heck not gonna risk getting cited until the signs post a higher speed limit again.

Side note, it is interesting to see how different states treat posted work zone speeds. Most of Wyoming on i-80 they don't seem to slow us lower than 65 even when one lane, other states - different case.

Anyone care to share your thoughts?

I also obey speed limits through work zones and turn off the CB radio so I don't listen to the big shot super truckers cursing me. The one that I'll never forget is the driver that was screaming at me, "I can't make my truck payment driving this slow."

Bigger things in a construction zone to worry about other than a #### ticket

you didn't read original post thoroughly, and so far not an answer from any of you. (China says driver blurted out can't make truck payment driving this slow....is as close as we got so far).

Why do you speed in work zone, or what is the logic? Like oh these narrow lanes only scare a wuss!?!?

You kinda answered it with this statement here...

People speed because they can. Even when posted it's enforced, did you actually see any troopers giving out tickets? No, cops tend to avoid construction zones as there is no shoulder to pull someone over on. This causes people to know they can get away with speeding so they do.

And yes, I go the posted speed, I'm telling you why people do.

Mostly because people have the mentality that "it (a wreck) wont happen to me."

    And....

This go go go world today, nobody takes a moment to weigh risk vs reward. They got away with the huge risk for the little reward once.... maybe a hundred times.
Now, speeding through construction is the normal thing.

Unless you actually use your brain and think, most people will not slow down UNTIL they are involved in a life altering event, which causes risk vs reward to slap them. Even then, it'll only last so long. Then its speed speed speed again.

Well they do pull out the speed limit number out of their ###, maybe its a state regulation. Some are too slow for the road conditions and some are even too fast.
Why people do it? because everyone has a place to get to, whether its a Starbucks , Walmart or a shipper/receiver they want to get there asap

Ok ....some people are steering wheel
Holders instead of knowledgeable professionals that obey the law .
Others simply will do what they think they can get away with and don't give a squat about they safety of others .
Still others are simple minded .
