This is what I ordered from them(straight from my email):

Unfortunately I trusted them to ship me a quality product. My mistake was I was in a rush and didn't notice red flags. First of all the box was not the same part #. The next thing I noticed was the outlet with the 3" v-band discharge (race covers come with slip discharge) was male and needed to be female. Would it have hurt them to ask? All they had to do was look at the stock 171702 cover and realize it's female. The next thing I noticed was the speed sensor protruded out into the area that you need to use for the clamp. The only spot possible to use a clamp is right at the lip. If this is standard operating procedure they should've told me. My race cover is basically useless without modification. So I did the obvious thing, I used the stock cover from the turbo I took off which is also a 171702.

Unfortunately that distracted me from other issues and I kept going, not realizing the fun was just about to begin. Installed the turbo on manifold, the next thing I noticed was there was a sticker over the oil send hole. Who does that? They always come with those orange plugs you need pliers to take out. A sticker is a bad idea and can introduce foreign material when you remove it, and anyone that knows turbos knows that any small dirt will blow the turbo. I didn't think much of it at the time. The next thing I noticed was the exhaust outlet was different from the 171702 I took off. It's a t6 inlet and 1.32 AR so I thought maybe there was an updated housing? The outlet is the same 5" v-band, but there's no inner flange so exhaust leaks are more likely because the downpipe isn't held as good. Then I started to put on the oil outlet, and that's when #### hit the fan. 171702s are designed to be a direct replacement for detroits, and they fit pretty good. I realized as soon as the bolts were standard and not metric for the oil outlet that I had a serious issue:

This wasn't a genuine Borg Warner turbo even though I paid genuine price.

It's either a rebuild slapped together with parts laying around the warehouse or a Chinese knockoff. Wrong box, no Borg Warner ID plate, wrong exhaust snail, wrong inner housing with standard bolt holes instead of metric, stickers on the oil holes instead of plugs, no Borg Warner instructions or gaskets, . The only thing that is from a 171702 on this thing is the exhaust wheel. That's it. I didn't order this frankenturbo, I ordered a 171702 with billet wheel and speed sensor, and that's what I paid for.

To fix the oil outlet problem I had to first find two standard bolts that fit, and they're a ##### to put on because they don't have shoulders like the stock metric ones did, plus I had to enlarge the holes on the outlet tube and the gasket. Hopefully everything holds.

I have been to Reed's shop before. They have alot going on there and seem to be really busy. He sent sent one of his workers to pick me up from the local truckstop just so I could ask him a question. While I was there I didnt notice any knock off turbos laying around just name brand quality turbos. I am getting ready to get him to build me a turbo soon and only expect the best.

Wow why would you after reading this? I'm giving them two options:

    1) Send the turbo back for a full refund

    2) Replace this turbo with what I originally wanted. If the speed sensor has to interfere with the inlet boot I don't want it.

    They've effectively committed fraud.

    A "mistake"?

That looks like about 5 mistakes to me. If I was selling an iPad, you bought it, and it turns out to be a chinese knockoff, does that sound like a "mistake"?

The evidence is pretty overwhelming. I have a 171702 turbo that I took off, and they're different as I've pointed out in my OP. I will post pictures later in the week. Even if it was a genuine 171702 (which it isn't) they still screwed up the race cover pretty bad. I actually have two genuine 171702s at the shop, an old one, one with 10,000 miles on it (I ordered this one but in the mean time my original one started throwing copper) and frankenturbo. The two 171702s are exactly the same, this one is different.

    Yes I have contacted them.
