    Hello everyone, need some advises here regarding Napa Gold 1971oil filter (by wix# 51971) I have series 60 14L pre-Egr and wanted to switch to wix oil filter 51971 and fuel filter Wix 33651XE I have been using Detroit Genuine or Donaldson P552100 oil filter and fuel filter but for price wise Detroit or Donaldson filters are becoming pricey here in Canada.
    I do get some good price on wix or napa gold filters.
    I do oil change and filter change at 15k miles using 10W30 winter and conventional 15W40 after winter.
    *Is it worthy and safe to switch to wix regarding quality wise?
    *How good wix filters are for series 60 .
    * It's OK to switch between 10W30 and 15W40?
    I will appreciate some insight.

    Been using Napa/Wix at my shop for over 20 years. Great filters. Never an issue.

    We use Napa filters on almost all our trucks and equipment. The only 1 we ever had a problem with was in a 2006 Duramax we had a number of years back. That motor hated Napa fuel filters. I like CAT filters on my truck, just because it’s got a CAT engine, and I like the way they look.

    Personally I would run 5W-40 for winter vs 10W-30.

    Is 5W40 safe to use on series 60 pre-egr?

    The first number with the W after it refers to the oil's viscosity at low temperatures. The last number is the oil's viscosity at (I believe) 100°C.

    So a 5W-40 oil will flow like a 5 weight oil in cold weather, but retain the viscosity of a 40 weight oil once at operating temperature. A 10W-30 will act like a 10 weight when cold and a 30 weight when hot.

    When in doubt, you can't go wrong with the manufacturer's recommendations for suitable oil in whatever climate you're in.
