Critters I am only saying reporters like to make things sound so easy. I look at what they say about any job I have had and I never made the money reporters say the job pays. Now if someone can tell me they got a job and made $120,000 the first year I would believe them. I would also like to know where that job is because I would be all over it. I don't need to keep making but I need a jump start for my savings because they have been hit hard. I also do not like reporters. That includes all of them no matter who they work for. They are all just trying to sell a story not report the news. I have met a few reporters and I left with no respect for any of them. I would even consider OTR if I would actually make $100,000+. But I know enough about trucking and other industries to know that if there is good money to be made then another company will do it cheaper. Did I mention I really do not like reporters.

I just started in the gas industry and can tell you that I started at $2.50/hr more than the folks with no cdl if that helps.I know you can move up quickly in that industry.I would say just get started somewhere and see what you think of it.You can move around in a company once you get some time in.

A friend of mine did wireline for a while and I think he made 100+ but insane hours all night and weekends, transferred to different Podunk places with no notice. He applied with no experience to baker Hughes and had to do quite a bit of training before he made the big bucks. Might also try Halliburton and schlumberger

My opinion has changed a lot from my previous post in this thread. At most of the big companies you won't make 100000 a year with wireline but most of the smaller companies pay based on a bonus structure. Our fleet just changed from Halliburton wireline to a much smaller company. Halliburton payed their guys like 12-13 per hr and the smaller company pays around te same hourly but those guys get a bonus of 1% of the ticket and the engineer gets 2%. Most of the crew is making close to 100k a year and the engineer is making almost double that. At the same time they don't have any set schedule and the last time I talked to them they had been working 18 days straight with no sign of a day off in the near future.
Now compare that to frac. I make between 80-90k a year and I get about 19 weeks a year off. We work harder and don't get to sleep on the job as much as they do but I'll take more time off any day.Nycoilfieldrookie Thanks this. -
