Hey I just got a 388 Pete and was wondering if a 379 winterfront would fit onto the 388?

Probably. There aren't pre-installed snaps on the grill. My winterfront came with the snaps, I had to install them on the grill. So unless you are talking about an exhd, they should be close enough, if not the same.

Why to people keep putting winter fronts on ? If your idling engine at 900-1,000 rpm it should stay warm.

Because going down the road in 0° weather keeps the engine from getting to operating temperature.

I can't remember not having engine reach operating temperature. Maybe people thermostat are stuck open. I just seen a Cascade with cardboard winter front. The S60 back in the 90s made enough heat running down the road even and -10. I'm just surprised we still see winter front today. Maybe people thermostats are stuck open.

My 379 ran cool, even with the winterfront. It likewise had a new thermostat, and the thermometer was on the needle while driving through the Dells at -40°.

I like that being open in the center. Most people do not consider how it stresses the fan blade, clutch, and hub when only a section is left open.

I could be wrong, but when it is cold enough to need a winterfront, is the fan going to come on?

When you run the defroster .... The ac is used sometimes the fan will come on when parked..... I try to turn it on to heat only when pulling in but not always.....:)
