First snow storm is the year in Montana and while it wasn't awful, it definitely left the roads with snow and patches of visible ice. I saw 1 hotshot in the median, 3 semis that lost control, 2 of which ended up on their side in the median, and 4 four wheelers that ended up stuck in the snow on the side of the road.
Take extra care, especially when you're getting used to driving in winter weather again; I don't like seeing my fellow driver in a bad situation that could have been avoided. Get new wiper blades, stock up on washer fluid, get diesel anti gel, and make sure you have all the chains you need for the states you drive in.
I hope everyone here has a safe and successful winter of driving.

Across 80, 90, 94, The DOT has gotten very ambitious about closing sections off when the weather gets too bad or even before it hits. In someways I actually prefer this as I run those routes almost every week. And yes we are heading into what should be a heck of a winter. This allows a driver to be able to avoid having to explain to his dispatcher why he’s sitting and not driving in bad weather. You just simply say “the highway has been closed down“. No further explanation is really needed other than that.

It gets brutal out west for sure. I think it was 2 years ago that my New Years Eve was a -17 degree night in Gilette lol. Props to you for doing it on a regular basis. Most of us at least get the occasional TX, LA, and GA trip to offset it :D

Nothing really compares to the scenery out west after a fresh snow though

2008 when highway 12 in Idaho was closed because avalanches blocked the road.
