Everyday I notice commercial vehicles with dark tint. I used to have light smoke tint on this truck until I was written a point robbing warning in Mo., then verbally warned in Az. by a DPS officer while under DPS escorted big load. I stripped the tint and replaced it with 3M Crystaline product which only has a 5% light reduction added to the 10% stock glass tint. I miss my 35% tint for many reasons especially heat deterrence but I believe 20% is the maximum light reduction allowable by FMCSA rules. I wonder how it is enforceable by law when I see official vehicles with Black Out Limo tint. Any thoughts..?

I believe tinted windows in a truck are illegal according to FMCSA
-
d) Coloring or tinting of windshields and windows. Coloring or tinting of windshields and the windows to the immediate right and left of the driver is allowed, provided the parallel luminous transmittance through the colored or tinted glazing is not less than 70 percent of the light at normal incidence in those portions of the windshield or windows which are marked as having a parallel luminous transmittance of not less than 70 percent. The transmittance restriction does not apply to other windows on the commercial motor vehicle.

Put the legal tint on the top few inches and then put the dark illegal stuff below that where their light meter can't reach!
Guf Thanks this. -
they really did not think that rule through obviously, it says nothing about the front, does that mean you can limo tint the front? not that youd want to but according to the rule you could
-
So we can tint the top of the front window
-
Yes you can tint the top and bottom 4 inches but nothing is allowed otherwise

The transmittance restriction does not apply to other windows on the commercial motor vehicle.
(e) Prohibition on obstructions to the driver's field of view —(1) Devices mounted at the top of the windshield. Use the search function... Another driver on here had tints and got several warnings or small fines and then got hit with a big ticket I think it was like $1000.00 and he removed them... I'm on my tablet and cannot link you to the thread, maybe someone can find it and link it
LumbraX Thanks this.
