Obviously there are plenty of inherent flaws with window mount CB antennas. How do they deal with RF ground? Or do they not require a ground plane like those fiberglass antenna kits with special coax?

I had a 2 meter glass mount antenna. It would work. Wasn't great. I was told the compostion of the glass and treatments of the glass for UV, or shading could affect performance have seen no tests or comparisons to verify this.

That's generally correct. They have a number of issues. First, of course is lack of a ground, which requires an antenna that can be configured as a centered half-wave to be effective. Second, there is always significant signal loss without a direct connection which is only made worse by deep-tinting or the presence of defroster wires. Third, their performance is inversely proportional to wavelength, which is why they work OK at cellular or UHF, somtimes OK at VHF and almost always very poorly at 27-28 MHZ.

What's the appeal of a window mount CB antenna? A magnet mount is easier to install and remove, plus it performs far better.

Some folks with motor homes use them because of nonmetal body construction. But they don't seem to perform very well.
