This will be put on a 53' Wedge. Looking for a reliable winch. Should I go with a 9k or 12k winch? IDK why but some people have been telling me Harbor Freight winches but I KNOW they make cheap #####. This is my business and reliability is most important. Funds are limited so the best priced, good brand will do. I checked out WARN but good god are those expensive. Give me your thoughts...

get the 12k lb harbor freight one. I have been using one almost weekly for the past three years and never had a problem. Just have to make sure and let the thing cool down on the long pulls.

Superwinch. I have S4000s in my 2 car and 8500s in the big trailer. Unless you're dragging vehicles with locked wheels on them , you don't need the 12,000 lbs winch. The S4000 pulled a crew cab F250 in my trailer with no problem.

The secret is to mount a battery next to the winch.

Ramsey Gear griven electric winch 10000. I hauled `6 cars from a dealer with no rims or tires and it dragged them right up no strain. cost about 400 or 500 used if you get a deal somewhere. With Harbor freight winches you do simple math when buying. a 2k means 1k a 4 k means 2k a 8k means 4k so on and when you get to 12k you have a good 8k pound winch. theres nothing better than a dependable winch. try looking in truck junk yards, or gov auctions online. used but worth it. I have used harbor freight winches but crossed my fingers when doing it. 2013-05-18 11.30.08.jpg 2013-05-18 11.29.38.jpg this is a 10k pound winch, but its the same one tow trucks use (with electric motor instead of hydraulic) We have this same winch on both the tow truck and rollback and it works all the same but like mentioned above BATTERY IS KEY. i don't use a car battery. I suggest you use a truck battery 1200 cold cranking amps (studded post) $40 with trade in at interstate batteries. in the end of all this gibberish, just buy a solid 12k pound winch from harbor freight and a good truck battery; after awhile you'll make enough spare change to hunt for a better one

Stop it, STOP hitting me! :biggrin_2559:

Them Warn's are worth the money. Double the thought on keeping the batteries close and the battery cables short as possible along with a good battery. A voltage drop across long cables will create surges and heat the motor quicker.

Regardless the brand try bidding on an ebay auction. They sell a bunch on there along with what everyone else said.

That's one of them things you don't buy everyday. You pretty much get what you pay for unless you run up on a deal on a good used one. You can even check out a 4WD forum classified. Them guys want to buy the biggest baddest winch they can buy and never use them. They just look pretty on their truck. Find a wrecked truck and you'll get a steal.
