I have been looking for a CB antenna but can't decide between the brands Wilson and K40. I had a cobra 25 LTD checked out at hutton's cb shop at the T/A in brookville, pa when I asked him about using a pair of K40's 20,000watt antennas(they look like horns when tilted slightly). As he checked it to see if a chop job was done - uncle said they "peaked and tuned" it at the Petro CB shop on I-10 exit 32 - I asked him about the improvements a better antenna would be over the stock pair the truck I drive has. He said one would be enough and tried to sell me a monkey made for $70. I have read that monkey made/black widow/stryker are garbage compared to K40/Francis/Wilson.
tl;dr - Wilson 5000 or K40 20,000watt? I'm open to suggestions since I am fairly new to CB communications so I am in the dark regarding "pill boxes" and "linear amplifiers".

Go with the wilson 2000 or 5000 especially if that t2000 is your truck.

I just got the first image off of google for swift trucks and photoshopped those snails on the side. The reason being is because in spanish swift drivers are referred to as "caracoles" or snails because the trucks are limited to 62mph. I'll get 1 Wilson 5000 and some coax cable and test to see how much better reception I receive/transmit. Thanks for the response -
This will replace one of the screws in your mirror bracket on the top of the door and then the cb mounting bracket mounts to this.
FriedTater and hatlesstrukr Thank this. -
If you drive a truck go for the Wilson 2000, but if you have a need to use a magnet mount the Wilson 5000 is the best.

YUP!! SOLD at Pilots everywhere . . . . .
Werks anywhere that bolt will fit

Personally ran a few of both, just what makes the 5K better then the 2K?
I prefer "Money Well Spent" correctly tuned out you couldn't possibly convince me of said "difference"
Move up to Predator 10K or 102"s and the real difference is LOUD and CLEAR !
Regardless of brand,if the coil cone isn't above the roof line
your just not quite there . . . . .

If your heading back east theres two hanging at the Pilot in Midland
exit #126,they were there yesterday -
You will need a couple of nuts to go on the screw end of most bird perchs. If not you cant screw them right threw the inside of the door if you ar not careful. Put the 2 screws on and run them all the way up. Then install the perch hand tight. Tighten anothe 1/4 turn (just like a sparkplug). Next run the 2 nuts down to the mirror frame, on at a time (jam nut). Also think of installing a grounding wire between the two jam nuts and running it down the inside of the door frame behind the hinges down to the battery box. Then connect the the end to one of the Battery box mounting bolts. With good coax you should get down in the 1.2-1.4 SWR range. Use clear packing tape to secure the ground wire to the cab jab. I used flat braid wire with ring eyes soldered on.
Tater is dead on about the coil, Higher is better. I run a Huster SCB with a 22'' base rod. If you run a Sirrus or XM boom antenna move it to the passenger side, even if it is mounted on the visor get it away from your CB antenna as much as possible.
