Currently in CDL school. I have a small, inconspicuous tattoo on 2 of my fingers which I dont think will be an issue getting hired and large pieces on my upper arms. but i am wanting to get more on my hands, forearms, neck, but am cautious about it since I dont want it to affect employment. Ive seen some truckers with huge tattoos on their arms but how common is it? and do most companies care or have policies about a lot of visible tattoos (wont be vulgar or offensive)?
Will having visible tattoos affect employement?

Stay away from tattoos , people might think your a truck driver or something.
Samuelh, Canadianhauler21, JReding and 8 others Thank this. -
Most companies couldn't care less about tattoos. A few that provide their own cute uniforms and have dress codes requiring drivers wear company uniforms, sometimes have tattoo policies.

Nothing visible though but , here's something to think about .
I wished I'd never gotten it. Looks terrible now all these years later.
I'm incredibly thankful I didn't go any further than I did.k1221n2, kemosabi49, Puppage and 1 other person Thank this. -
Just my advice,
If you can wear jeans and a short sleeve shirt and nobody would know, life’s path may be easier.
Old advice given to me years ago.Dino soar, LtlAnonymous, Lepton1 and 10 others Thank this. -
Don’t get ink on your neck. You’ll look like a trashball. Most places will still hire you though.

What's "RAD" in your 20s won't be in your 50s, and you'll regret a lot.
Nothing wrong with ink. Nothing at all.
Keep it somewhat tasteful, and keep it to the arms and torso.
Legs are fine if that's your deal, you can easily cover that and no one will ever know.
Naked women writhing in a pile of snakes... no matter how artfully done... will offend some customers if it's visible and it's not to be seen.Lepton1, homeskillet and driverdriver Thank this. -
I said no.Chinatown Thanks this. -
I'll answer your question & leave my old personal opinions out of it.
I see drivers all the time with tattoos. Id say that most companies dont have an issue with it. I would also say that I assume some companies frown on it. I'd say, if they are covered & cant be seen, I wouldnt say anything about it unless they asked. So, just because company A allows tattoos & you work for them for 5 years, get more tattoos, then need or want to go to a better company, you may be denied because of it. -
True story! Phone conversation reported to me that took place about 5 years ago and I admit I forgot the actual words used.
Carrier Hello this is (Redacted) may I help you
Customer Yes may I speak to (redacted)
a few moments go by.
Carrier This is (redacted)
customer Yes this is (redacted) over at ( redacted) I need to discuss an incident here that happened today.
Carrier Yes, what was that?
Customer Your driver in truck number (redacted) was attempting to make a delivery here. In the process of making this delivery one of my office clerks became offended by one of the tattoo's the driver had. It was of a sexual nature and we rejected him and will not allow him to unload here.
Carrier OK, I will get involved and see when we can get another driver on that delivery. I will be in touch.
Customer No, this is not enough. This is not the first time we have called your company about this driver. I have called (redacted) and asked them to NOT use your company in the future.
Carrier I am sorry about this, If we can ever do anything for you in the future please call me.
Later at the carrier.
Get rid of that driver!
Moral of the story, tats are OK as has already been said. However if your tat is offensive (this is defined by the customer's) you might have issues getting loaded or unloaded!
I actually don't care either way because a tat is just ink, however there are many people that do!
