It has been my experience over the past month that
Flying-J download rates are at or over 1mb/sec and TA's are
around 500kb/sec or less. Large or small crowded or not.
I can't subscribe to 4 different yearly truck stop wifi services,
so I've been trying to compare them all.
I would like to hear about Pilot, and Petro etc...

Thanks for the info med man, I'll check out the cell phone companies slot cards next home time. About TA wifi... My monthly with TA is expired and I will not be renewing my subscription with them due to very slow download rates in many of their truck stops crowded or not. I'm not sure they care but good WIFI svc is one of the top factors when I choose my stops.
I guess siricomm is another company, anyone have any info on them? -

Wow you are the first person that I've ever heard say any thing good about Sirricom. I knew they couldn't possibly suck for every body as bad as they did for me and stay in business. I'm talking whole minutes for opening a regular text page with out pics. Worse than any dial up I've ever used. -
i use a cingular air card. $60 a month and it works EVERYWHERE.

I used to subscribe to all the truckstop wifi, Was paying $80 a month and could only get a connection when I was lucky enough to spend the night. Then I got a Sprint Aircard. $59 a month unlimited and I get a signal almost everywhere. I will never go back to wifi.
-
Too bad Sprint's no longer unlimited, isn't it?
-
Well, to the best of my knowledge they still offer two plans. One limited and the other unlimited. My plan is unlimited and has been for 2 years. Maybe they have changed the plans for new customers. I am not married to sprint, I just like my plan. My brother has Verizon and pays the same for unlimited...but it is way slow.
Many nights I will get online and set my laptop to download movies all night while I sleep. I have never had to pay one cent more than my agreement.
I am just saying there are better alternatives than the truckstop crappy wifi that many are paying out the nose for.
best wishes to all.

Well, I hate to tell you but Sprint recently made a change to the contract putting a limit of 5GB/month on phone as modem (PAM) and data card plans. The contract says you have 30 days after receiving the notification to cancel service without the ETF for a material change, so I canceled the contract but kept the service (month-to-month). It sucks that they did this, and I agree Sprint is far better than any WiFi I've used at a truck stop (Bosselman's are actually nice). And for the record, Verizon has been capped at 5GB for a long time and was taking a lot of heat for still marketing their service as unlimited.
The usage page on Sprint will still say unlimited. Sprint only has one data card plan, now, and that is 5GB/month. I believe they used to have something like a 40MB/month plan, but that was far overpriced and is long gone.Wolfsbane Thanks this.
