I agree W O . I didn't say it can't be done. I just made a fact that ANY truck running can make same speed limit and pull same legal weight as an expensive truck can and probably do better on fuel than expensive truck. I'd love to own a long nose Pete. But I'd rather make money instead of spending it to have pat on back and have CB hearing nice truck.

Look at the resale value on the same year long hood truck and your Freightshaker. Is the money you saved on fuel going to make up for the loss in value of the truck itself.

Do dealerships drive down the road, get the name of your trucking company and call you to come and trade that truck in so they can have it on their lot, I'm guessing not. I've had several dealerships get the name off of the side of my truck wanting me to trade it in because they have people LOOKING for trucks like that and I tell them that is the exact reason I'm NOT selling it.

The only reason Freightliner is the biggest SELLING company, is they build cheap trucks for the mega fleets, knowing that they will only hold onto those trucks for 3-4 years before trading them in. The used truck lots are FULL of them and that's why you can buy them cheap.

But if you want to drive one, to each his own.

The resale value argument doesn't hold water. Or dollars.

Spend $40K more on the outset. Finance it over 4 years. What's $40,000 at 6% APR?

Four years later you sell it for $40 K more MINUS depreciation.
So you've paid interest and depreciation on $40 K.

Or maybe you're doing really well and you paid cash. That $40 K still depreciated and didn't earn any interest invested somewhere.

At the end of any truck 'a life the hood will bottom out about $15-20K higher. Provided it's been kept up.

Spend your money and justify it to yourself however you wish. It's your money after all.

I don't doubt that one bit Sho. But I buy truck to make money. Not for resale value. As majority I'd think. And if I'm wrong I'm glad I researched before I bought and got into this business. :) No doubt them long nose beautiful trucks. Hope all is well and staying safe out there.

Exactly FB :) Knocks freightliners loaded on lots for sale. Well being #1 selling truck in the world it's apparent that they make the most money using the least amount of fuel or they wouldn't be in that spot. By no means I personally think their the best but I'm going by facts and research and making me money as a business. If wrong thinking on my part please tell me before I buy a truck.

The Freightliners are THE best selling due to fleet sales alone. Fleets buy them for price, and they are good for beginners with the visibility, cheap parts replacement, etc.
That is why Paccar is getting into fleet sales, and thus why quality has gone downhill (from my experience anyways).
WS market share is 2.5%! Thus why they are few and far between. Both me and the dealer I got mine from, hope they stay that way so the quality stays up. No way to cut costs but in workmanship and quality of parts unfortunately
Purely for a money making machine in the short run, it's hard to beat an aero Freightliner. Dealers everywhere and open for the most part, cheap to get initially, and so on. I would, however, NEVER buy a new one again, not anymore. The quality difference between my 2000 and my 2006 was startling, and not in a good way.
World would be a boring place if we all drove the same stuff I say.

Extra money for a hood isnt the case anymore. At one time a W900l had a $5000 premium on them over the T600. Now that so many have gone to the aero style truck the base price for a T660 and a W900 are the same.

You new drivers have never been in a long nose. But think they know all about them. Driving is JUST another job to you. To the rest of us driving is a career. And like CLASS so we drive long noses. But you new people think they know everything. But it's just another low paying job to you. If you want a short nose.. Drive a COE. You'll love those. Not a bus but a COE. A bus is a cab forward. But guess this is what the new driver.. Thinks. The new guy that thinks they deserve a new truck with big power. That never paid their dues And they think they, knows everything about anything in the trucking industry. Try driving a 220 with a set of sticks, SQHD, RDWD 65 and you were lucky to have a heater, you couldn't hear the radio, had 10-22 hot caps on the drivers, shutters, a wig wag. But that's to far below you. And if you don't know what I'm talking about, you don't deserve my time. But you know everything..

Volvo and freightliners have very little resale. That's why a few years ago freightliner had over 3000 sitting on the ground in Salt Lake City trying to sell them for 2500 down and low payments. They couldn't get rid of them . Let alone other yards around the country. Trying to be sold. So they tried to move the used freight liners to Russia, because nobody want them here. But guess we can't talk about this one. Or ever see a 20 year old freightliner? By that time they are being made into rebar. Do you even know the history about freightliner , who made them and why? And what they made? And why do fleets buy them? Because they are sold to them for about 1/2 of what you pay for them. So where is your resale now? Kenworth and Peterbilt don't do fleets except one or two like TMC. International, Mack, freightliner, Volvo do mostly fleets. At one time internationals factory was producing 3 out of four trucks going to only to Schneider and JB hunt. Peterbilt and kenworth have alway been an Owner operators truck, and they build them accordingly to that . 30 years ago kenworth tried to sell to a fleet... Swift. And kenworth got their butt burned on it. And will never sell to any large fleets . It's called quality over quantity.

Your facts on the MOST sold is right, it's about selling CHEAP trucks, that fleets can buy and drivers can tear up and they can fix them cheap.

Buy what you want, it's YOUR money.

If you don't think about the RESALE end of you truck, you're not as business smart as you think.
