You could read the history of US Industrialization beginning with the 1850's or so, and then you'll learn why the north has most of the factories.
Ghost Ryder Thanks this. -
and as far as the north goes, pennsylvania is one of the most tax friendly states. other northern states are tax gouging states, so if you wanna open up a factory in the north east, why NOT pennsylvania? sure a heck of a lot better choice than ny,nj,ma,ct..........

We have lost alot of it over the years do to steel mils closing down. but not much more than the avg state on the east cost. just depends on what you or your company haul. hope this helps you some as i really can understand what you want to know

On the contrary the South has more manufacturing, pretty easy to see when you look at the internal carriers load boards.
The North has become a consumer state. -

There are a lot of distribution facilities in Pa. that serve the Eastern Seaboard. Not to tell you something we all know, but- Pa. is a well positioned state with access to the great lakes and Atlantic Ocean and bordering some pretty big spending states. Its no doubt that alot of commerce passes through their hands.

yeah i'm guessing as stated above it's central location as much as anything else. we have alot of customers there central to eastern part going all directions out of there. i have such a love/hate relationship with pa because i absolutely detest philly and we get routed off the toll roads as much as possible and that makes life difficult some trips but....... i'll take loads going up there any day of the week. get a sweet bonus to run up there and points north and east. makes it worth the headache and with good planning it's alot less stressful than alot of places north and east.....but i could do without philly lol never had a good experience there even though i always go in with on open mind and decidee this time will be different. it never is.
