Why doesn't anybody want my load locks?

    I picked up a couple when I got an empty trailer and I tried to sell them over and over again at truck stops 2 for $20 and never found any takers. They rattled around in my cab for 5 weeks before I could get home and stash them in my garage. Back in the day when I used to drive for Dick Simon and pulled reefer trailers I had about 6 to 8 of those things that any one time and always needed more. Does anybody use load locks anymore? I see them selling in truck stops still and they asked a lot more than I did on the CB. I plan to use my to this set up a temporary paint booth in my house cuz I seen them used to hold up plastic partitions for painting. That is the only reason I put up with 5 weeks of incessant clanking in my freight shaker. I couldn't do like in the old days and use the fairings coming out the back of the truck to hold them. Trucks these days are built so flimsy. Maybe that's why nobody wanted them as there's no way to store them on a modern truck. My question to you is are load locks obsolete? Have they been replaced by straps? If I find any more should I bother rescuing them or just throw them in the nearest ditch?

    My first thought with that price is I don't wanna deal with stolen goods...
    If you wanted them gone bad enough, you could have simply given them away.

    They keep falling off the flatbed...:(

    Anyhow, the people that would buy them don't have a CB.

    If you're picking up a few here and there, so are other drivers. I found a few sometimes and kept one and never used it

    I just threw them back into the trailer closed the doors and go on down the road. Not my issue after I got through with them.

    The flimsy trailers got even more flimsy later in my years. Shake a little on a bad bridge and I hear that THUMP when the walls quit holding that log and it falls 7 feet. Screw it. Let the freight fall where it may It wont hurt none.

    I love seeing load locks on rollstock loads. Like umm dude, that roll of paper weighs 3-7,000 pounds. Your load lock isn't going to stop #### from moving.

    I've never put a load lock on paper rolls. Never had them move. Never had double stack tip over. I haul them every single day.

    Our trailers are too old for straps.

    And actually the only thing I've ever loadlocked out of requirement I think is beer. Other than that, never had a cargo claim.

    And for the naysayers, saying all loads need to be secured.
    Flatbed loads are secured by wll rated straps. Regulations stating every so many feet yadda yadda.

    Van and reefer get a load lock which holds by applying pressure to an ever twisting frame.

    In my opinion, we should have some type of securement regulation beyond friction.

    I've hauled lead blocks 3500 pounds to 9 pallets loaded single file straight down the middle of the trailer, secured only by 2x4s nailed to the floor. Somehow it's legal.

    So F them load locks.

    I have 3 of them stashed behind the Cascadia, and carry some in the side box that knock down to around 4 feet.

    Company sticks one or more in most reefer loads, and I just try to get them back, usually vertically in the back of the trailer.

    Wouldn't bother with them in a plate van, and even a regular van is pretty flimsy in comparison to a reefer in good repair.

    Probably not much call for used ones, although I saw parts for repairs on them at the Pilot in Inver Grove Heights, MN.

    I pull a flatbed, have a headache rack mounted in front of the catwalk, and still have two load locks mounted in front of the headache rack. I bought the truck from a guy that ran flatbed for two years, before that he was a dock banging door swinger.

    I'll give mine away along with the brackets to carry them behind the cab.

    I used a load lock once. it was when I had a door malfunction and a Wal-Mart reefer roll up went a ducked itself all up lol
