I understand that truckers tend to form a close knit community, not unlike cops or firemen, but there are situations I've seen where some truckers tend to get really angry - like shouting madman angry - when they don't have much of a reason (from my point of view, anyway):
First, the RV/Box truck parked in a truck space (rest areas, truck stations) - why does this bother you guys so much? I mean, I could understand if the lot was packed tight and you couldn't get a space for the night, but I've seen truckers - not employees - literally bang on the door of an RV and demand, rather angrily, that the occupants leave the parking lot because they're not a truck. I don't quite understand where you expect these vehicles to park - they would have to take up two "normal" parking space - and I don't understand where the rage comes from.
Second, what's up with refusing to move your truck from a gas pump after filling up to let an RV or Box truck fill up? Diesel is pretty rare to come by at other gas stations and the best way to reliably find it is at truck stops on the highway. Am I just not realizing something that takes up a significant amount of time between filling up and leaving?
Finally, why do some truckers take it so personal when you've got a lower speed limit to observe than the car passing you up? I've had a truck harass me for a few miles with his highway horns because he was stuck at 55 and I passed him up at 65. I don't know what I could have done to piss him off - maybe he expected everyone to do 55?
I'm just curious as to why these things tend to piss some truckers off.
Why do truckers get angry about certain things

Sounds like you have come across some of the jerks in the biz. Not all truckers are like that. Most drivers will move their truck up to allow the vehicle behind them to use the fuel pump while they go in to get their coffee refill and pay for their fuel. It can take awhile for a trucker to get back out to their truck after fueling if the truck stop is busy. The more trucks at the fuel islands the busier it is. It's not a simple matter of swiping a credit card or handing over cash usually. Especially if it is a company driver.
If the signs at a rest area say that RV's are suppose to be on the truck side, that is where they belong. If it says they are suppose to be in the car section, then that is where they belong. -
I am a Trucker and I have seen this also. My thinking is this,
Being a Trucker you work with just yourself, for the most part, Some people are just plain jerks, and Can't work with others. they never have matured into adult hood. Just listen to the CB and listen to them make stupid childlike noises just so they can make someone hear them. So they become truckers!
As far as the RVs go, I drove them as a commercial driver for 8 months. Had a driver of a truck that was not up to standards tell me to leave, I told him that in a bit I would, and with out him knowing, I called 911 and had them come out to resolve the matter. He was placed out of service and I left to keep a fight from starting. I would rather be a live chicken than a dead duck.
RVs with a DOT sign in them have just as much right to be in the truck stop as any other truck. I had to point that out to a number of drivers in the past. and in that one case, even a Cop had to point it out.Baack Thanks this. -
I agree, not all truckers are bad. Just me... LOL

A box truck should be on the truck side. I've seen them on both sides too. Some of the box trucks are not much bigger than a conversion van though! I have even seen rigs parked on the car side of rest areas, but that was usually late at night, and the place was full to the gills. There never seems to be enough places to park for rigs.
I had rented a 26' box truck from Penske when we moved back to Wisconsin from Florida, and that puppy went on the truck side when I stopped a rest areas. I also had to go through the scale houses that were open. Also had to fuel it at truck stops because it was a diesel.Faber Thanks this. -
disclaimer; this is a joke;
I always got angry cause I'd been awake for some obserd amount of time, and for the 85th time in 10 miles some rv'er would pass me goin' up hill and I'd have to fight to slow down or pass them goin' down the next hill......over and over cause my company governed my truck at a speed only retired people in rv's would drive and then will ##### because I'm not getting enuff mpg, while my wife yells at me on the bluetooth with the kid screaming in the background.
- Then I'd have to pee real bad and finally hit a rest stop thinking I was gonna get to go and sleep, BUT NO the rv'er would pull in, take the last big truck spot when the car side was empty....then go in and take the last bathroom stall.....laughing and cackling all the way in cause he had nowhere to go and a bathroom in his rv....like some crazy "truckdriver hating" rv'er monster.
-No, I'm kidding.....some people are just wound to tight, maybe they need to do a different line of work.Last edited: Dec 19, 2008

Talking about the rest area. What ticks me off is when you pull into one and you see one last spot. Then you see some stupid 4 wheeler in it in a big truck spot.
Faber, Desiredname, simplyred1962 and 3 others Thank this. -
the reason drivers get mad is because most rvs are not dot regulated, a truck has to park only in places they are allowed to, an rv can park at a mall, or wal-mart, or home depot or a shopping center, where a truck is not allowed to park at these locations, yes, some wal-mart and other places do welcome trucks, but rv's are more welcome.
also, truck drivers are regulated by the government as to how many hours we can operate, drive 11 hours, and work 14, we plan our trips and where we will run up our 11 hours at a specific truck stop(s) and when we pull in to find an rv/car/box truck/pickup truck with a trl and even bobtails parked in spots that are designed for trucks it really does tik us off, cause now were at 11 hours driving, and now we may have to put our career and licens and even our life on the line to travel maybe a nother 1-30+ miles to find a nother truck stop or rest area. youll see trucks parked on the on/off ramps, however, that could get costly in some state that frown upon parking there.
TRAVLE CENTERS used to be called TRUCK STOPS, hence truck parking. not for cars/rvs/ pick-up trucks with trls. now, with the amount of americans that are traveling now more then ever, you very rarely see actual TRUCK STOPS anymore.
RV drivers, i would recomend never ever putting you slide-outs in the our position as you will now either be encroaching on the open spot next to you and now taking away yet a nother parking spot thats designed for big trucks.
the trucks and suv's with the lil u-haul trls then they are now a big truck and are now welcome at truck stops, well, thats not true, yes truck stops are open to the generel public, however, the u-hual trls on the suvs can park up front in the regular parking for the night. the RVs can park up front as well in some, maybe even most truck stops. you could even park your RV at Craker Barrele, as they have assigned RV PARKING ONLY.
