I've since moved, but I actually got my CDL in Maine a couple years ago and have no idea why this is a thing.
Is it some kind of registration fee advantage like when you see high end cars with Montana plates?
Why do I seem to see so many trailers with Maine plates?

Maine requires lower fees and less/no inspections, longer renewal times for trailers. When you have 10,000 trailers small things matter alot.

For many years, Pumpkin,( Schneider) a predominantly Wisconsin company, had Illinois plates. Seems to me, there's a loophole, and an office in a state with cheaper plates was okay, no matter where the operations were out of.
