Ok im usually not one to rant, but it seems lately, like last 6 months, I have not had a single smooth week with loading or unloading. This week on 7/9 I had a load appointment at 2pm, was there at 1pm, and they didn't get me out till about 8pm. Mind you the rate con had delivery 4hrs away at 10pm same day. So naturally I'm there late, and they reschedule me to unload today, 7/11. Drop off was ok, bout 2hrs. Sad even that is considered good now. Now at my next pickup, original guy (not me or my company) canceled, so I arrived at 11 un knowing, when the original appt was at 8 and they charged us (well the broker) a 205 dollar work in fee. Whatever. It's now 2:35, 3.5 hours in and I'm still waiting for a door. Then half these people, more then half actually, don't want to pay detention or layover. More often then not it's denied or says on ratecon "no detention paid" every week at least 1 shipper holds me crazy long and the more truckers, owner ops I talk to, it's just common?? And like i said im not just aggravated at this one off event, its every week, if not multiple times a week. When are we going to band together and do something about this? Also sub par rates. With fuel at 5.25 a gallon here, im running reefer anything under 3.25/mile is hardly worth it but that's 90% of loads out there right now.. my dad has a saying, it's that everyone is making money but the trucker. It's messed up and somethings got to give. We have to stop taking the abuse.
Why are we putting up with these crazy load/unload times and rates?

They are using your reefer trailer/fuel as storage and not paying you detention? Man, I don't know if I could take the aggrevation you guys who pull vans and reefers have to put up with.

Only advice I can give is start narrowing in on a certain lane or triangle of lanes where you start to know the shippers, receivers, brokers, etc and through trial and error can weed out the bad apples. Some are consistently just bad and will always mess you up. If you can eliminate that then sure things happen, but less often.

It’s more common now than ever with Employee shortages. I loaded Saturday at 2:00 pm.
Rate con I agreed to paid $40 hr. detention after first 3 hrs. I showed up 3 hrs early, had to wait till appointment time. I was there a total of 12.5 hrs., 9.5 hrs. getting loaded. Now I’m waiting for a new rate con. The original had held $100.00 for tracking. So a new one was already expected. Now it needs to be for the full rate, after delivery, with tracking compliance, plus Detention and Lumper fee. So now it’s $100.00 + $260.00 for 6.5 hrs. detention, and $267.00 Lumper that I paid, since it was 3:00 am this morning when I delivered, and Office was closed. The extras are supposedly “waiting on approval” Shouldn’t be any “waiting” involved. I probably won’t get my new rate con till tomorrow. I’ll update, if not. I’ll also give out the Brokers name, and any other Broker for that matter in the future that doesn’t pay what’s owed. No excuse for games with detention, it’s a long standing problem that shouldn’t even be an issue. Especially since mandatory ELD’s. No other Business gives away free time. It needs to be upfront and enforced.D.Tibbitt, Another Canadian driver, bryan21384 and 7 others Thank this. -
