This is not about injectors. restrictor fitting in return line at back of head maintains equal pressure across the rail. opening up orafice in fitting increases flow thru the system improving throttle response and a small increase in power. this works on stock DDs. I dont have exp with modified DDs so cant comment there.unlike Cats and Cummins, DDs dont need or want alot of fuel pressure. 66 psi seems to be perfect.....
DD14 is the expert here maybe he will chime in.

Reading your interesting little post, you are apparently failing to realize exactly what you wrote.
Please allow me to point that out;- You are saying that a MODIFIED and TUNED Detroit engine will out perform the apparently stock engine....duh!

If anyone does a modification to an engine, whether it is simply drilling a hole, or bolting on $10K of custom parts, and that engine does not out perform a stock engine, There is not much bragging room, is there. If you "tune" (as you say), and that motor out performs one having much more horsepower, two things come to mind.
    (1) Exaggerated claims
    (2) How come this great "tune" technique isn't more widely circulated, where more of us Cat owners would be left eating Detroit smoke?
I may even slow my Cat one day, just to get a taste of the green smoke, I'm curious if it is the same as the yellow.

Speaking from my experience, I prefer Cats, and up till his retirement worked closely with my father who favored and had MANY Detroits. However he had NOT ONE stock Detroit that could out perform my stock Cats; EXCEPT at the fuel pump. In case you are unable to comprehend that, simply put, his Detroits got better fuel mileage, my Cats pulled better. Both he and I will readily admit to what I just wrote.
Just my observation from experience, not based on scientific evaluation, which is exactly what your post is, your little $.01 (not even a full $.02, IMHO).
Good luck, and may wisdom and knowledge be in your future .

    Typical "Cat" responses......
I run'em for many years and thought the world of them, but there is far more to a Detroit then a Swift Volvo.
Based on simple statistics, there hasn't been a CAT win any sanctioned event in quite sometime now . . . . . :biggrin_25525: maybe the Big Money hands know a thing or two about Performance ?

The Legend of "Shaker" has long since faded :biggrin_25523:

Yeah, matter of fact, I heard Bigfoot runs a Detroit, which is why he is so seldom seen- always under the hood LOL!

Thanks PaulE and Stranger for the helpful info. Do ya'll use a certain diameter bit to drill these fittings out? I read a site saying that it was like going from a lollipop stick to a cigarette and that's more than just thousandths.

I'm just joking Friedtater, The truck before this one had a Detroit, it ran forever and is still running and had over a million on it when i got out of it. I used to say didn't have enough power to tear it's self up and it kept the transmission tore up from all the shifting. Sorry, couldn't help my self

89 thousants is a #43 bit, or a 5/64, both being appx. the same size. Too big of a hole and the injectors will starve for fuel, with possible gaulding.
