Hi.....I'm hoping to go into the transporting biz and would really like to get a mid-size/medium-duty single axle truck (not a semi 18-wheeler), Freightliner (m2 106 model?) or Kenworth/Peterbilt fitted with a club cab and then add a small (but legal) sleeper onto the back of that. I'm thinking I'll need a chassis at least 110", but would be interested in seeing if a 106" chassis would work.
I can't seem to find any info on this kind of custom-work. I think this design makes a lot of sense. Maybe I'm just dreaming.
I sure hope there's someone out there who can steer me in the right direction.
Here's a truck that looks like what I'd like but with a sleeper (small) built behind the cab. (This is from the Freightliner website)

Who can custom build a sleeper onto a mid-sized truck, not an 18-wheeler?

I've seen a few hotshots buy a used expedite straight truck with a sleep and have the frame shortened . That makes more sense than a club cab with a sleeper .
The club cab alone on a Freighliner is wide enough to be a legal sleeper or you'd be o.k. logging off duty when sleeping in it .
Another idea is to find a single axle sleeper .http://www.usedtrucks.ryder.com/Vehicle/VehicleSearch.aspx?VehicleTypeId=2&VehicleGroupId=13 -
Thanks, Rick! Good ideas.

Have you tried talking with people who build custom sleepers ICT(?) about this project if they can't maybe they can put you in contact with someone who can help you or go to a salvage yard and see if you can't find a 36" sleeper and have a fabrication shop fabricate it to you truck. You never know it might work. Just my 2 cents worth.

Have you looked into racecar haulers? Here's just one, http://www.flyingamotorsports.com/ after a 2 second search.
To my knowledge, ARI and ICT are the only custom sleeper manf. left.

Personally, I'd go with a already built truck and sleeper rather than cab-chassis/sleeper. You show up, write the check, you drive off with the truck/sleeper of your dreams.
All the logistics of truck here, sleeper there are taken care of and you have a single point of contact for any issues.
Evidently, you're not hauling much weight and the racecar stuff setup seems perfect for you. JMHO, bol and please let us know what you do. I find this stuff fascinating. -
I used to deliver to ICT, they have a quality product. I'm sure they could design about anything you need. They have some links to some used ones on their site.

Thanks, Popcorn! That's a good idea, too. Yes, have checked with custom sleeper people, but far and few between. Still checking. I have checked ICT, but I'd like to find one on West Coast if possible. That's one of my obstacles. You'd think there'd be more out here . Interstate 5 isn't exactly a small freeway!!

Thanks, Lonesome and Mr. Lee....Really appreciate all these responses. Thinking it might be best to just go to Freightliner and see if they have an animal close to what I want. Who knows? Maybe they're hidden in a back room somewhere.

You do realize, if you look around you can find a nice single axle tractor with a decent sleeper already on it WAY cheaper than you can pick up at truck like that and have a bigger motor and bigger fuel tanks. Look on www.racingjunk.com you can sometimes find nice trucks on there.

Hi again.....Thanks everyone for your ideas! But, maybe I should submit my post in a different way...I've actually seen about 3 trucks out there that do have a club cab (or should I say seats behind the front seats) AND a sleeper behind that. So, does anyone know if these were custom trucks or is there a manufacturer who offers this? I'm willing to go "custom", but where do I start? I've written to Freightliner and still waiting for a response.
Thanks!
