Yeah, the white sheets deal is old, old, old. But, don't laugh too hard at the guys that buy into it...

There was a time when we would have scoffed at the idea of a diesel cop wanting to search your truck.

We'd laugh at you if you told a tale of any cop giving you a ticket for just a clearance light being out.

We would have laughed even harder if you'd told us that one day they would carry little rulers in their pocket to check your brakes.

We'd all get a good chuckle if you told us that one day they'd haul creepers around to get under your truck.

We wouldn't have believed it if you had told us that one day we would be subjected to extensive "safety checks" while sitting on the shoulder of a two-lane highway.

We'd probably just shake our heads and mutter "rookies will believe anything" if somebody tried to tell us that there would come a time when we would have nationwide 72 hour DOT checks.

We'd have probably told you to "get real" if you tried to tell us that one day we'd be expected to produce receipts to prove where we had been and what time we had been there. Not produce them in a court of law, but on the side of the road.

We would have said, "NO WAY!" if you'd told us that one day we'd have to strip down and put on a hospital gown just to go piss in a cup on command.

I could go on and on, but...white sheets on your bed? If the white sheet manufacturers ever finance a study to show that white sheets promote better sleep and therefore are safer, you can count on some bureaucrat to cram it down your throat.

i actually DID have a nurse tell me to put on a hospital gown for a piss test...(pre-employment)

she said the company wants it that way....i walked right outta there, and went back to the company and spoke to the safety guy. i told him i do not need to get naked for a piss test, and he could shove his job up his arse......he said, no way in hell is that our policy, he called the clinic, chewed them out, and sent me back....

when i got back to the clinic, they were all smiles and apologetic, saying they had "the wrong company"....

i walked into the bathroom, unzipped my jeans, pee'd, and walked back out again...(of course i DID zip back up, and wash my hands)

    i got hired....

In my very short time as a driver I have seen a number of rules and regulations which were supposedly created in the name of "safety" but, in reality, were really about politics, control and money all along. Knowing this, none of what you say would surprise me in the least.

Me too, although I do have the matress covered with a sheet because it is foam. If I ever did get a ticket for it, I would love to take it to court just to make a point.

I figure the white sheets are so we can wave them in surrender as we hand over our rights.

    Hi!

Can someone tell me exactly where the White Sheet requirement is in the FMCSR book ?

    I really can't find it.

    Thanks.

It isn't there. It is either a myth or an old obscure reg. that has been done away with.
