I have a Detroit 60 with a Meritor 10 spd transmission, this week I have started to notice a faint high pitched whine which I think is coming from transmission .I noticed it around 65 MPH,if I let off the accelerator it goes away then returns when I accelerate.I guess I'm just hoping for the best, could this be clutch or transmission? It also goes away going down hill.

Pull the plugs on side of trans. both rear/ends and stick your finger in to see if gear oil is filled to top of the bottom of plug hole? ck. to see if ride hi is set and move arm on air valve to see if any play in valve is found?

I had the truck serviced yesterday and all the fluids are ok, I noticed that I push in the clutch or put it in neutral the sound goes away then if I rev up the motor I can hear it . so now I'm really confused.

just because you had the truck recently serviced unless you watched them check the oil levals in the trans and the rear ends, it was probably not checked and just marked off that they checked it, that it one of the most common things that they say they do but skip on pm's that and greasing throw out bearings unless you have a grease hoses that comes out.

I have sold the truck but found out that the throw out bearing had not been being greased and became stuck in the engage position. The mechanics said they had never saw that before. They pryed it back greased it and it worked.I started greasing it myself every week after that I think that was the noise I was hearing was a dry throw out bearing.
