I leased on with a buddy and he uses Fleetone and QPN network.

I compare the Petro T/A discounts to what I was getting at Malone as I can still get the daily Malone pricing list and it was the best discount I ever saw.

So for instance today Jan. 03, 2013

T/A Gary, IN (Retail price $3.669)
    .............................QPN price ..................3.5466 /gal
    .............................Malone's Comdata price 3.422 /gal
    .............................Difference .................. .1246 /gal

T/A Franklin, TN (Retail price $3.859)
    .............................QPN price ..................3.6339 /gal
    .............................Malone's Comdata price 3.539 /gal
    .............................Difference ....................0949 /gal

So my question is where can a small fleet get discounts like Malone's?

I hate paying more for fuel.

I checked what Mercer drivers are paying today using the fuelmgmt.com site
    T/A Gary $3.522
    T/A Franklin, TN $3.599

Well i have heard good things about the qpn network discounts. One thing to remember when running otr. that is whats on the pump is NOT the price per gallon of the fuel....to get the true pump you need to find out each states ifta tax for the pump. than minus that from the post price. now you have what a gallon of diesel cost. than you can figure what states are cheaper and who is cheaper. Now why is this important....say you run OH and PA like i do....if both states had the same pump price of 4.00 a gallon. but pa charges lets say for ease .50 a gallon tax. but ohio only charges .25 a gallon tax. no when you tax the tax off in pa your paying 3.50 a gallon and in oh 3.75 a gallon. but in pa your paying more into your ifta account which will a) give you a credit or b) leave you owning less than if you bought all your fuel in oh. I hope this helps people understand how to truly get the cheapest fuel possible

i have seen prime drivers get up to 40cpg

i think a lot of these companies (not prime, but maybe prime) are getting 10cpg and giving the drivers only 5cpg

as far as cards go, i use cash these days.

That's what my buddy says they tell him too but I have the proof it ain't. They are full of crap.

I'd be willing to keep a balance with Malone if I could get those discounts again.

Let's not confuse this thread with IFTA lessons! There's plenty of threads on cheapest base price.

I just need the best discount card.

some of those savings are 37cents per gallon, on a 200gal fillup thats a $74 savings

and i remember hearing an old rumor "gas stations dont make that much on fuel, only about 5cpg, they make more on coffee"

if the cost plus these guys can shave off 37 cents, that means they are getting at least 40cpg profit from most folks

Well you can't go by what large companies negotiate as a guide to what the station may pay for the fuel for a standard retail customer. I love all this numbers cr ap and when it was explained to me how all this stuff works my head was spinning. Some of these large companies can purchase more fuel than any single station. So stations get rebates for fuel sold to the larger accounts.

I don't know what the deal with NATSC was but not happy. And Fleet One is a waste of space.

There is a big difference between a gas station price and truckstop. I see gas stations all the time selling diesel for way less than the truck stop a couple miles away. I fuel at Walmart alot since I BT alot. I am getting $.15 a gal of posted price with my WM credit card.My Dad and Grandpa used to own a gas station and they made $.05 on gas.

A small carrier just will never get a discount like a carrier with 100+, 500+, or 1000+ trucks. Discounts are based on volume and many of these large carriers will require company trucks to only fuel at certain locations so they can reach certain goals volume wise to get bigger discounts. The best discount I ever got was when I was leased to Nationwide Express out of Shelbyville, TN I was getting their discount at the pump. Anywhere from 40 cents off cash price to as low as 15, 10 or even 5 cents off cash price. It always varied and from month to month you could see differences. They fueled at Pilot only and had designated Pilots for the company trucks to fuel at, they always recommened o/o fuel at those locations to but opened our cards up for anywhere and didn't make us. I always thought it a little odd that I got such a great discount there as I have talked to several other o/o there who only got 5 cents a gallon of cash everywhere they went at pilots. I think somebody did me a big favor there as I had been there for so long but I have no idea who or how. It still didn't make up for the low rate but it was, guessing here, an extra $100 or $150 in savings every week.
