Hi,
My hubby has been hauling for CH robinson, coyote, landstar, TQL, JBhunt and the pay is not good. Can anyone tell me the secret and where to get those good paying loads? We really need help there.
Thank you
Which Freight brokerage companies pay better for loads?

the only secret is experience, the name of a company doesn't mean anything. You may have hauled loads for $1.80/mile that you could have easily gotten $3.50/mile for. Broker's are good at one thing and it involves moving their jawbone.
Here's a few examples from the past 4 months to give you an idea what I'm talking about.
1. Offered $1800 on a load at 5:30 p.m. going 265 miles. Would you jump on that ? I haggled and got $2750. I knew the shipper would pay and figured out there were several loads to go and most carriers were out of the office or their drivers were out of hours.
2. Load popped up for $2.85/mile on a Saturday. Again, familiar with emergency loads from this shipper from company driver experience and knew they could pay $8+/mile, told the broker so and she explained they had a contracted rate on the lane and couldn't offer more. 45 minutes later, load popped up under another broker and I got $5.25/mile to run it.
3. Saw a load from a shipper I happen to deal with directly, called the broker and offered my rate, was told they'd check. Sent the shipper an email with the same price, got the load... I'm sure I was $50-$100 less than the broker after they tacked on their fee. Sometimes basis of comparison pays off.
Name of the company doesn't mean anything, the broker doesn't pay you, they steal from you. It's the shipper that pays. -

2. I've added several direct shippers recently, thanks for asking. -

Nobody is gonna get a descent rate "most" of the time if they dont build a relationship with a broker. Would you pay someone top dollar to haul your freight if you didnt know them? Ya gotta do the hard work first, build a relationship, and then you have room to negotiate once you have proven yourself to them with timely service etc.
areelius Thanks this.
