I'm trying to decide which company to start my career with, and it occurred to me some of them might offer "Lane Keeping" (limited auto-pilot) on their trucks. I know most new trucks these days have "Adaptive Cruise Control", but "Lane Keeping" is newer so I doubt many companies/trucks will have it.

I still plan on monitoring the road and being ready to take over at a moment's notice, but after renting a car for a long road trip that had lane keeping I can say it makes long drives much easier. You still have to provide steering wheel input, but the amount of input required is significantly less. Please don't lecture me on the dangers of Lane Keeping technology, because I'm already aware they can't be relied on entirely.

I'd prefer it to be as a company driver, but leasing isn't out of the question.

If you aren't comfortable revealing this information to the public, which is understandable, PM me instead and I'll keep it to myself.

You went on a road trip in a car and needed the car to help you maintain your lane. Now you wanna get behind the wheel of a 80,000 vehicle. This isnt the career for you. You might not like it but its the truth.

Jeez they don’t even want to hold the steering wheel now-a-days…

all of that extra safety crap ends up being more of a distraction especially since it malfunctions.. adaptive cruise tries to kill you everytime it sees a underpass.. Lane control beeps in the speakers abrasively loud and in the snow in wisconsin made me want to drive the truck into the lake..

There's no substitute for being able to maneuver and drive a vehicle. All these lane assist, adaptive cruise and other 'modern' technological conveniences end up making things worse overall. Drivers simply need better driving skills, not gadgets that enable drivers to be lazy, unattended and less competent drivers. My opinion at least!

Please do not refer to that system as "limited auto pilot". Those systems are annoyances and are nothing but accomodations to drivers that can't do something as simple as watch the road. I'm currently driving a truck with lane departure warnings and adaptive cruise control/distance alerts, and every day I contemplate pulling out my pocket knife and cutting every wire on that box. Try driving through or around any major city and keeping a 3.5 second gap between the vehicle in front of you, it's not possible. Dealing with traffic is bad enough, that beeping on top of dealing with traffic is horrific. I swear my blood pressure is 250/200 some days
