In Springfield, MO there is C1 or 160 Driving Academy. The cost for C1 is a little less; but, I would have to commute a little further to school.

Another option might be to go to a technical school down in Arkansas. It is less than half the price of 160 Driving Academy, or just over half of C1’s fees. The training is 1 week less, so maybe I could afford to stay in hotels or Airbnb while down there. I’m not sure about how hard it is to get the CDL in another state. My DL is from Missouri, where I live.

Most companies hire from 160 Driving Academy.
If you have an idea which company you want, call and ask if the company hires from 160.
Also ask which endorsement are needed.

I hadn’t heard of Crowder. It looks like a good possible option and maybe much lower school costs. This is where you went? Do you remember the total costs? I will call them this week…

Honestly, truck driving might be my backup plan. I’m looking at a job in a different industry that just happens to require a CDL. Otherwise, I might just pick one of the companies that does their own training in-house. I read they are sometimes much more motivated to help people through because they are directly trying to serve the needs of the company they work for—additional drivers.

However, I’m still thinking about trucking a bit. The industry I’m looking at has a reputation for LOOONG hours and I’m not young anymore.

Did you go here? Did you like it? I can handle ‘boot camp.’ I just want competent training. I tend to excel at most things I work toward. I would be surprised if things turned out differently getting a CDL; but, it wouldn’t be the first curve ball life has tossed at me. TD is one of the most expensive training schools.

Why not look into heavy equipment?

You mean to say truckers have long hours? You can’t really drive more than 8-10 hours/day OTR can you?

Operating heavy equipment? Like excavators, graders, bull dozers, etc? From what I’ve seen the schooling takes longer and costs quite a bit more.
