I am looking for the best place to get a VIN inspection done on some van trailers. I recently acquired several van trailers and all have out of state titles. I need to get out of state vin inspections done so I can get the titles switched over. Where’s the best place to go to get this done? I know the BMV does them but it would be kind of hard to get a semi trailer in there. Any suggestions? I am located in northern Ohio.

Not really sure what you mean by a VIN inspection. Our trailers are registered in another state but we have then inspecting in La. It all a federal inspection... FMCSA... DOT inspection. State doesnt matter... its federal.

Most any major trailer repair shop would be able to do that. I'm sure most small or otherwise trailer repair shops could do it. Just call around where you normally get your trailers serviced.

Here in Ohio in order to transfer an out of state title you need a VIN inspection done. Basically they just verify that the VIN matches the title and they fill out a paper. I’ll check out trailer shops, Thanks!

In Florida we use law enforcement to do the vin inspections. Sheriff, local or Highway Patrol. They will come to your location and do it free of charge.
Has to be done for any equipment being brought in from another state to register in Florida.

Your local constable can handle that.

I don't know how Ohio does it, but if you have an out-of-state title that is notarized, and you have a photo of the VIN tag on the car, Pennsylvania will process it as long as the numbers match.

You give the title and the photo to the notary and they take care of it.

In Idaho we just get ahold of the sheriff or state police to schedule a time that they cam cone to our location to perform the inspection.

Call the state police, they will tell you what you need to do for Ohio.
