If you get one from Fitzgerald’s, make certain they didn’t build it. Many aftermarket parts in their rebuilds that are well known in Detroit repair shops to fail prematurely. The ones they put in their gliders that Clarke or someone else built outside of Fitzgerald’s facility, supposedly have OEM Detroit parts.

Vanderhaags in Altoona Iowa sells them, they also sell rebuild kits made by Interstate Mcbee which is same liners as Detroit kit. The gaskets are low grade but but the gaskets from Detroit dealer and rebuild one.

If your in Tn, Know a good shop in West Tn. Guy will do you right. He rebuilds a lot of the Detroit 60's. Plus Cat and Cummins. Unless your block is bad. He had a good low miles 12.7 for sale a while back. But guy picked the complete engine up. Get this $4200. It was a 2001 model. Guy paid to have a 99 put in its place.

I'm in virginia. Had this one rebuilt 3 weeks ago. Spun a bearing now its junk. Local guy rebuilt it, I should have made a better choice, but it's done now. I called detroit they want 24k for reman and 6k core, of course mine is not a good core. So I dont know if I should get a take out, or from someone like american fleet. Borrowed 14k for rebuild only made one payment before this one bit the dust. Thanks for all the replies.

How much money do you have?
I would go the reman route for sure.
I hope it's a nice truck because your going to have 38k plus just in the motor.
I hope you learned to take it to detroit or other oem and rebuild it right with warranty next time.
Another truck might be better way to go now.
    Best luck
