I have bought a number of trucks over the years. I have yet to have to sign a bill of sale or lease to drive it or be able to have it checked out at a garage of my choice. Most dealers have insurance on trucks where anyone with a CDL can drive it without having to buy or lease it first. I was thinking about buying more trucks a couple of years ago. The dealer with whom I was talking told me that I could take any of them and have them checked before I made a decision to purchase. Any other dealer where I have found trucks that I am interested in I could have taken them anywhere I want to have them checked. Never have any of them mentioned anything about a bill of sale or lease or having to get insurance first. This doesn't sound right to me.

I'll check it out tomorrow and ask some other dealers. It would definitely make it easier for everyone if we could get short term insurance for customers to drive trucks to get inspections.
-
With the three trucks I've bought at dealers, I've always been able to test drive them or have them inspected at a mechanic of my choosing before signing anything.
That said, the guy that parks next to me has a LM USX 780 and has never said anything bad about LM. He had his truck inspected here in Orlando by his mechanic, and returned it to GA for repairs without a problem. Hell he recommended LM to another guy I know that bought one too, but I haven't talked to him in a while. Of course, these guys pay their bills on time and are seasoned O/O. -
$800 to remove/isolate some naked wires?....sounds a bit excessive to me....I've been working on Volvo electrics for years and they are not that difficult to diagnose/rectify.
We still haven't heard what repairs were necessary to justify a bill of $4300.
Most manufacturers will tell you a new truck's purchase price only represents approximately 9-15% of the total running costs throughout its life.JackMac Thanks this. -
Here is a suggestion, first of all consumer protection laws apply to online advertising. Your website and sales tactics are very deceptive and that is a red flag to me, after dealing with many dealers in used trucks I have to say that if anyone is incapable of a authorized test drive prior to a sale it seems fishy to me. -
Then he gets to CA and says he needs $4300 for a DOT inspection? Several people have asked numerous times, what were these repairs specifically? But the OP continues to avoid answering that question.
No dog in this fight but really I think the owner of Lone Mountain has a point, the OP likely got fleeced by the repair shop in CA.

Dont feel bad, joe hoovestol and his band of suck ups may attack ypu on here but you are not alone... Loan mountain is not his first leasing company he has been running this scam for sometime just had to shut down and open up under new name and even changed the resident agent as a concelement tactic... i purchased a truck from their dealership in tifton ga after i got there he showed me the 780 volvo i inquired about and it appeared to be in good shape. But when i test drove it the brakes were sticking and the autoshift tranny wasnt shifting properly. He said no problem we will fix it but before they could pull it in the shop they had to have the down payment.. Like a sucker i gave up the money he said come back in a couple days it will be ready.... When i returned it wasnt ready so i went back home. When i retujrned again he said its ready so we teast drove it again the tranny wasnt shifting still and when we pulled back into the lot the front leveling valve blew... So i went back home when i returned a couple days later i was fed up... Drove it again and still tranny wasnt shifting right... I told the salesman i had enough i want a different truck but to my surprise it was the only one availible (bs meter went off) i said then just give me my money back but oh no that is non refundable and i only had a few days left and i had to take possesion or i would loose my down payment (non of this was told to me before i gave up the money) he then told me to take the truck hook up to a load and see if the tranny acts right if it doesnt just call us and we will get it fixed... I had no choice at this point it was take this or nothing and they keep my money... On the first run i called and told them it was screwed up (the tranny) i was basically told too bad you shouldnt have left with it.. I had dumped piles of money into this truck like no other.. And i am not new to being an owner operator by any means. I immediatly called iowa and was confronted by Nikki the worlds biggest b***h. I made several attemps to go above her head but was not allowed... Now i am fed up and luckily the tracking device was accidentlly (wink wink) disabled... I will no longer accept calls from nikki or derinda... And if lone mountain wants one more dime from me then hoovenstol had better call me himself and be prepared to make this issue right... Hoovenstol is good at deleting bad reviews about lone mountain from the internet but the word is getting out and getting out fast.. If you wonder why the complaints at the bbb are limited it is because they changed their corperate name and everytime you change your name it give em a clean slate... Lone mountain is not his first company of this type and want be his last.......... if you got to lone mountain to buy a truck wear a recording device, record every phone conversation, ask the salesman to put in writing every promise he makes. You may need these for evidence in the future... Thumbs down for lone mountain...

Before I sign a contract, I read it thoroughly. If a dealer makes a promise, then they should not have a problem putting it in writing. Lone Mountain should have made everything right, as long as it was part of the purchase agreement. I have never put a down payment on any truck unless everything was in order and to my satisfaction. There are laws that protect against some practices, but it would be much better to have everything that was agreed upon in writing. If you don't have it in writing, then it doesn't exist. Having everything written down is better for everyone. It avoids misunderstandings.aiwiron Thanks this.
