I’m looking for 10 speed manual Freight liner with a dd15 and preferably between 2005-2014. It can be a Columbia for cascadia. I’ve looked on marketplace but they’re all in pretty bad shape. My budget is 20k-40k I’ve been doing this for 22 years and ready to take a risk and jump out on my own.
Where do you buy your trucks from starting out?

Whatever you do, wait, 1st, welcome aboard. Don't buy anything from a dealer, or auction, they are the bottom of the barrel, and were sold because the "nickel and diming" had already begun. Typically, at the 450-500K mark. FB is a good place because many of the original owners are throwing in the towel, and can tell you everything they did to their "baby". Truck papers usually deal with dealer trucks, I've found. I wouldn't limit yourself to a FL, or Volvo, as many really nice KWs or Petes are coming up, and you can have a shred of class. Don't get me wrong I, nothing wrong with a FL or Volvo, except, used FLs don't bring much, maybe $10gs tops. Your budget could easily have a nicer( to me) truck, AND,,,you have a better resale should things go awry. I'd go with a KW.
W923, Phantom307, Stonehjl and 1 other person Thank this. -
MHC had a bunch of newer KW's,$40k with 300,000 to 400,000 miles.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
I’ve used commercial truck trader website. Maybe just my imagination but they seem to have nicer stuff than truck paper.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Friend of a friend of a friend who knew the original owner that was getting out

Some of the worse junk i have seen was from owners who were getting out of the business because they were not making any money. They cut back on taking care of the truck as much as they could.
One reason why you do a dyno, with a blowby. Get an full ECM dump and get an independent mechanic to find all the problems with the truck.
There are still more trucks that are chasing owners than owners chasing trucks.Short Fuse EOD, Ironmyke, Studebaker Hawk and 6 others Thank this.
