I spend it at home. Sometimes it would be a week or so later, but I had a mom that decided early on that she didn't care WHEN we celebrated Thanksgiving as long as we did it together as a family. Even now that I'm local, the tradition remains...and it works out well. Each of us kids are free to celebrate the holiday with our wives and their families...and then we all get together a week or so later for ours. No hurt feelings over who makes what and who's missed where. No rationing necessary trying to pull double-duty hitting meals at BOTH sides of the family.
You can either adapt to the job, or be miserable. The job is a LOT easier when you have a supportive family. Bottom line, the holidays are about spending time with family. As long as you do that, the holiday can be whenever you all can get together. Sometimes, it leads to a new family tradition that proves useful long after the initial reason for it no longer exists.
But, if all you are looking for is a turkey dinner, I'm sure most truck stops will have something. Cracker Barrel (around here, anyway) has been advertising that they'll be open and serving Thanksgiving dinner. Took the wife there last year since she had to work. This year, we had our big meal yesterday since she had to work again this year. The joys of retail and "black friday" starting earlier and earlier every year.
Happy Thanksgiving.jammer910Z Thanks this. -
This year I happen to spend thanksgiving with my family. But honestly, every holiday is just another day in trucking.
FreightlinerGuy and TBonze Thank this. -
I spent mine in my truck. Had Cajun turkey, peppered garlic ham, beans and rice, fresh raspberries. All out of my cooler.
Was darn good.mountaingote Thanks this. -
Think I only missed T-day once, maybe twice, and the boss paid for dinner since I couldn't be home. Not a big deal, but I have never, ever been away for Christmas in over 30 years in the business
TBonze Thanks this. -
This year it's Wendy's. Texas Road House and O'Charleys were closed, but then all the non drivers are spending Turkey Day at the Walmart.Skate-Board Thanks this. -

I've spent most with my family as planned. I have spent several in the company of complete strangers, at feedlots, sale barns or big ranches here and there. A few at the home of good people who refused to let a stray leave out with a load of cattle without a good meal. Spent one across the pond in the sand. It's good to spend some of those days away from family. It will renew your faith in the generosity and kindness of mankind
