I'm an O/O currently renting a trailer for $750 a month but I'm responsible for tires and breaks. I tried Extra lease but I do not meet their qualifications. I been an O/O for 7-8 months. I have 2 years experience OTR. I heard that there are trailers out there for rent for $400 and maintenance is included. I'm starting to think that's a myth. I have good credit +730 so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

I don't know the price but call Compass Lease. They are in Chicago area and down in FL... Maybe they have a deal that works 4 you...

Well, stick with that until you learn more about the trailer. I mean it is the nature of the business that anything gets old. However, once you learn how to maintain units it stays with you the rest of your life. In conclusion, keep at it. sometimes if it is too good to be true it ain't true.

How long do you plan on keeping the trailer? Have you looked into buying one outright? Either new @ 28k which will be just at 37 months @ $750 and you own it and can resale it if you move to flatbed of reefer.. Or used is a bit less expensive, but usually not worth it as low cost as a new trailer is....

I really don't want to own because the brakes and tire maintenance is all out of my pocket. And I don't really think I'll be driving for much longer. I'm looking into having a driver or two. I already own a 98 Freightliner century ready too roll for December. My plan is wait until December find a driver that wants to run on paper and do local with my 04 Freightliner Columbia. So buying a trailer isn't my best favor in my opinion.

    This makes no sense.
In your opening statement you said you are renting but have to pay for your own tires and brakes.
Then you say you don't want to own because "brakes and tires are out of your pocket".
    ?????
Buy a good used trailer and be done with it.

So you think it's wise to buy a trailer today only too sell it in 2-3 years? If I have one or two drivers using my trailers; I'll be replacing tires and brakes twice as fast because I don't think they'll be taking care of my equipment as I would myself.

That's the cost of doing business. As a business owner you WILL need deductions. Also if you can't afford breaks and tires every couple of years don't even think about hiring drivers......

One thing I think you are not thinking of...
No matter how you slice it, you will be paying maintenance (tires, brakes, lights, etc.). The question is do you save money by paying for it yourself, or letting it stay hidden inside some month to month renting deal?
And remember that month to month renting deal is making the renting company profit....
