I've searched this site and have seen others in my shoes and followed some of the replies with no luck. I'm possibly buying a truck this weekend(providing it's as described), and need temporary insurance to get it home. I've called Classic, they advised me not to purchase insurance since I haven't seen the truck yet. I agree, but they are closed on the weekends, so if I DO buy it then what? I've called Progressive(6 month minimum), State Farm(I have my auto/home/life there) wouldn't cover it, Agent's Choice(a referral from State Farm) doesn't offer it, OOIDA said they could only provide fire/theft/vandalism but no liability insurance. What has everyone else done? Thanks in advance for the help!

Don't have any insurance as of yet. First truck, just needing to get it home so I can finish all my other paperwork and fix any issues before putting it on the road. I've seen several pictures and even asked for more specific pictures of any issues I thought I saw, I've done a RigDig, and am about 90% certain I will buy the truck. Just need to see it in person first to make sure it's as it was described. Thanks for your help, baha.

This is a catch 22. I just had trouble finding a legal way to do this. Truth is, unless you have authority or are leased to a carrier, general bobtail insurance is invalid. Read the fine print. They dont want you driving around bobtail if you dont have DOT#'s. So you need a truck to get leased on but you need to be leased on to move your truck. Personally, I paid the company selling my truck to transport it to an approved inspection facility for the carrier. i then picked up my truck, fully insured and leased on to my carrier. Most dealerships have insurance they can use to transport it and DOT numbers. Many companie will tell you "just write "Not for hire" in window and you will be fine. You still need tags and insurance regardless.

You can always chance it. Thousands of people drive around without insurance every day.

There is some type of 30 day tag you can get but I don't remember what it's called. Call IRP. Somebody can tell you

Yeah I'll have a 30 day tag. This guy is a small dealer and has temporary tags. He was also clueless on the insurance though. Would Non-Trucking Liability cover it? And can I get that policy for a short term? Apparently non-trucking liability covers you if/when you use the truck for personal, non-revenue generating purposes, which is exactly what I'll be doing. Just driving it like a personal vehicle. No loads, not under dispatch, just driving home. Thanks again for the help!

It's from a small dealer, said he could get temp tags but not temp insurance. I have auto/home/life with State Farm, but they didn't wanna touch it. They couldn't wrap their heads around it being a semi and not being commercial. I told them I just wanted to have insurance to drive it from the dealer to my house where it would remain parked until I got my other paperwork done. They kept asking what kind of loads I would be hauling and all kinds of other non-relevant questions. lol I repeated that I wasn't "hauling loads" I was driving the TRACTOR ONLY from A to B and wanted to be insured.
