Many fell for the trap around here in the Midwest. Money was so good they all bought new trucks and trailers. The work is very erratic such as all of the sudden they tell them they don't need them for 6 weeks which turns into 3 months etc. Lots of them lost her all. They pay big to get people when they want and let them go when they want. Very unstable work. Some of the plants that ship it out have went bankrupt now too.

You're running way behind. Started 10 yrs ago. With crumby economy everyone w/blower showed up and then started cutting each others throats. Then the rats like schneider{they don't deserve a capital S} tried to worm in and it just got worse. If you are good and can land a job w/Trican or a handful of others who still haul some of their own sand you can still make good money. But that is pretty well reserved for friends who they have worked w/ for some time and know aren't whiners. I went from $1500=2500 average last summer to squat. Quit and started hauling fuel locally. Not as well paying. $2-300 a day. But great benefits and home everyday. And no hurry up. Just do it safe. Don't every sit around talking and considering going off and making big money. If you do it's probably not for you. Just like contracting in Iraq, Afghanistan, Djibouti, or other Hell holes. They pay you for your inconvenience not because you are some hot trucker, plumber, etc. Oil patch is not that uncomfortable now.

i have a friend that is doing frac work. but she constantly posts on facebook that she's not working.

too many things can and do go wrong. she probably makes good money. when things go right. and the frac actually performs.
