If you do take the tanks off yourself, just make sure and draw a map of how the spacers and where the longer and shorter bolts go. I made the mistake of not drawing a map or taking pictures, and I spent half a day taking some of them back out and moving it around while it was in the truck, that wasnt fun.

I got my info on the staggered vs straight rows from an article by that Bruce fellow with Pittsburgh Power. He is a monthly(?) contributor to one of those publications you pick up at the truck stops....I think the name is Truckers News. The last issue I glanced through had the PP guys discussing radiators; I believe I read that they are also selling radiators with the straight tube design, which would be reason why their claim of straight tubes being more efficient.Les2 Thanks this. -

2 years ago I got a new tad from Detroit Radiator and am happy with it. I think it was about $1200 shipped. I also asked if they had an OOIDA discount and got $100 off
I also just bought a new charge air cooler from them they called it the Powermax for $860 shipped 7 year million mile warranty. -
you can get a radiator from any truck dealer or the automotive spare parts shop.
For your pete 379 it will be suit any of the radiator used for semi trucks. -
Independent, you might want to replace your thermostats, they control your temp. not the radiators.bbechtel16 Thanks this. -
When Peterbilt designed the 379 cooling system they wanted the radiator to last 1,000,000 miles. The OE supplier is Modine.
After buying two aftermarket radiators from General Radiator and another supplier (neither lasted more than 300K before leaking) I bit the bullet and bought a genuine Modine after my altercation with a drunk illegal alien last year.
OEM is the best way to go.... the core for my 379 cost $850.00 plus labor. -
Someone else I spoke with talked about leaking radiators from General Radiator, & they had just dropped it in.
I just replaced mine with a Detroit Radiator & their Power Max cac & it all works. Temp gauge stays put right where the thermostats are set to open, which replace them as well when you are tearing everything apart. There is more info about various mfg'ers on this board located here... -

Purchased a radiator from these guys. Cost was under $900 shipped. They talked me out of getting another factory Volvo radiator which was more expensive, and going with the aftermarket brand they carried. The rep was saying they have about a 25% return rate on the factory radiators, and the aftermarket return rate was almost non existent. Aftermarket has steel tanks, factory has plastic tanks. Apparently its the side tanks that fail.
Long story short. We found a trash bag that was stuck between the CAC and the radiator which ended up being the whole problem. I ended up returning the new radiator, and they let me do so willingly and with out question.
