Does anyone make wheel spacers that would work on rear duals? I would like to set mine out about 1/2" - 1".

any machine shop should be able to make them, are you wanting to get the outside tire farther from the inside or both tires away from the truck

I am wanting to set both duals out farther from the frame. I am switching from 285/75/24.5 to 305/70/22.5 so each tire is about 3" wider. This leave me alittle close on clearence. I am switching from aluminum to steel wheels so I have plenty of stud length to play with. The guy at the tire shop gave me a template to take to a machine shop to have some made. Just wondering if it would be alittle cheaper to find someone who makes them.

Maybe you could use an old brake drum and have the drum part cut away from the center???

I have actually never seen this done. I would call or email the manufacturer of the axle you have and get the proper advise from them. With Eaton there are numerous support centers around N. America, go to their web site and enter your ZIP code to get the closest one. For Meritor here is their - Toll-free Hotlines

Yeah, it's that truck. It's all about flotation. To switch over to four agricultural floaters would be about $6k, whereas I can convert to eight 305's for about $3k, plus they will last alot longer. All the other trucks in our crew are running 305's and I am finally biting the bullet and making the switch. In the wet fields my 285's are just too narrow, as soon as I get a load on I sink right in.

    7mouths2feed Thanks this.

So what are they using.? I would think they would be your best source of info for that application.

    Hey kwforage,

Just as a matter of "general mechanical principal", the further you move "load forces" away from a bearing, the greater the wear and tear on that bearing.

Sooooo...... If you go ahead and make the conversion, I would suggest that you might want to keep an eye on your bearings. I'm not suggesting that the conversion would be detrimental, but it might be worthy of your attention.

a full load of silage isn't all that heavy, maybe 12-15 ton depending on the size of the box. The one landfill I used to go to had something rigged up to run 3 tires wide on the rear drive for stability, but they were never on the road. That would be nice except for being over 9 feet wide
