Husband is thinking about going with Knight can't get anything else. Does anyone know about this DOT Wellness Test they give at orientation? They told him it is different than just a DOT physical, which he already has. They told him if he does not pass it they will not hire him and will report it to the DOT as a medical failure. He has a medical waiver for a brace he wears on his leg and is worried failure of this wellness test could cost him his CDL, but with so few offers on the table and the bills stacking up he does not want to give up the chance. Any advice out there?

It's a medical exam that cover more then the DOT physical. DOT physical is only the basics, any company can require are extensive physical. They should not be able to state it's a fail unless if fails to meet the DOT physical.

But, Knowing how the big companies roll, if he fails any part they will report him.

Failing a wellness test won't cost him his CDL. It's much broader than the required DOT medical test.

Basically, the company is trying to insure your husband can do the job without having a heart attack.

He should be aware, some companies are now applying Sleep Apnea checks. Then refusing to hire a driver without the expensive sleep study, paid for out of your own pocket.

I'm not sure if Knight is doing this. My guess is no at this time.

Thank you both for you quick answers I appreciate it. My husband already attempted the JB Hunt Wellness Test, although they didn't call it that, a few months ago. He didn't fail but left orientation before he did. He doesn't have the balance you need to do the things they want you to do. JB Hunt reported this on his DAC report.

None of the companies he has talked to will give him the complete list of things he has to do in order to pass the test, i'm not sure why it is kept so top secret as it only costs everyone money when the info isn't readily available, including the company.

Personally, I think these "balance" test are complete BS.

When a person maintains balance. Their body utilizes whatever method or parts it needs to self correct. Standing on one foot is not normal. If it was, we would have all been born with only one leg.

During hunting season, I stand on a 12x12 inch platform for hours at a time, 25-40 ft. off the ground. With ZERO balance issues.

Failing someone who can not stand on one leg for 30 seconds...is complete BS.

If your husband goes to Knight and goes through this 'wellness test', please provide us with details on what it entertains. I am quite curious, now.
