    Hello,

I have an opportunity to get a completely rebuilt from the ground up kw w900 1996 with a 13speed and a cat motor new everything with 2k miles from the rebuild 755k total mi a blower and a 2015 pneumatic trailer...I can chose a 2011 international pro star maxforce with 440k miles or 2007 freight liner cascadia with 750k miles...what would be the best for something that can still be leased to other companies if the frac sand doesn't work out? Thanks buzzard lease driver for 3.5 years.

If you keep up on routine and preventive maintenance, the KW will cost you enough less in maintenance(compared to the other 2 you listed) over 3.5 years that you could probably buy another truck. Also, I haven't seen the plastic road tractors fare too well in the longer term when used for oilfield work. W900's on the other hand, hold up just fine.

If the trailer is not set up solely for sand use, don't worry about frac sand. You can haul a lot more than sand in a good pneumatic trailer...

I second what @JPenn just said. Not the biggest KW fan for otr but for your oilfield application it really is the only way to go. I dunno what it is cuz I'm not a mechanic, but I ran a frac sand trucking operation for a few years in nodak and them kwhoppers and petes held up better than anything. Plus that sleeper setup, with all the wait times, will work out better for ya. Good luck man!

If the CAT is a E model which in 96 I believe you could get one with it then hands down get the KW hopefully they have paperwork for the rebuild but either way it's the way to go for the right price. Cancel out that prostar with a maxxforce

The company I work for runs Volvos and we haul sand. The Volvos don't fall apart like folks say on the lease roads. We are rough on them, but if you don't hit or rub anything, those plastic side panels hang in there just fine. I'll tell you this much: they ride good, and they turn on a dime. Makes backing in on tight locations a lot easier.

Having said all that, I just bought my first truck: a '99 W900L. I like it, but I'm gonna miss that turning radius....

10/4 that's what I was leaning towards being as all I've driven otr has been KW's T660's (my personal fave) 2011, and T680 2014 & 2016 been a bit spoiled but leasing those trucks left little profit for the company I was with. Now just need to find a company that will take a 1996 kw w900 with the rebuilt paper work. Thanks for all the replies it cleared up a lot of debate.

If it has a ECM then all your big boy O/O companies will take it. If a company has age restrictions then it's not a ideal company to lease on with

Whatever you chose don't buy that Maxforce engine. It would be a grave mistake.
