Whats STAA mean? I see signs from time to time, but no one can tell me what it means, not even the DOT that I've asked. Figure its something with weight and or length.

STAA refers to the Surface Transportation Assistance Act.

Basically, it means trucks are allowed on that road for deliveries/services. Deliveries to pick-up or deliver, services to get fuel and maintenance. After you make your pick-up/delivery or get your fuel, you backtrack to the interstate and get out of town. I can't remember the insignia on the sign denoting deliveries and services. Usually there's an industrial area a mile or two off the interstate that's been there forever, or a fuel stop. You see these signs a lot in Ca. on two lane roads leading into the mountains telling you you can go make a delivery to a consignee 10 miles ahead. Sign will say "ends 10 miles ahead".

I never knew what it ment either but I usually avoided the ones with the red circle around it just to play it safe.

If I remember right, PA uses that term on signage.
