Coil racks, Beveled 4x4's work best (Must be HARDWOOD)
The racks i had were multi use ones.. they had 2 ramps on them,

And tarps depend on what size coil, or Coils your hauling.

4x4 beveled hardwood and enough coil racks to load coiled wire the length of the trailer. I always had 12 racks and 8 4x4s min.

we're talking just the one coil loads. maybe 2 as i've seen some loads go by.

every once in awhile. the only thing around is a single coil load. and where i'm at now. that's it. besides lumber.

the 4x4's don't have to be hardwood as we do not use hardwood and out 4x's are not beveled either. I usually carry 8 or so with me and I use 6 coil racks for 2 17-19,000 pound coils but ive seen plenty of guys just use 2 for each instead of 3 but company policy is 3. I believe our coil racks are only 24" long but I could be wrong on that. and no tarp since I have a conestoga. that's the best coil tarp they make

If he's getting a single coil, odds are it will be a 20 ton or larger. A 20 ton coil is a weapon of mass destruction. I don't think I would use anything but hardwood (and heavy duty racks too. Those cheapie a they sell at the truckstops I don't think I would trust. When those coils get to be that heavy, they don't have to come off the trailer, all they have to do is lean to one side or the other.

    Ain't that the truth.

As for the number of coil racks you'll need, the general rule of thumb is one rack for every 10,000 lbs of coil weight. So if you're hauling a 45k coil you would need to use 5 racks.

    snowwy Thanks this.

We avoid big coils whenever possible. That much concentrated weight is scary. A wrong move and that big ####### would love to twist an aluminum trailer.

Coil racks, we use one for every 8,000lbs.
    Friction mats, 1 per cradle
    Coil pads, we carry 10
Edge protectors, both steel and rubberized.
    6 beveled 8' timbers
    6 beveled 4' timbers
