What's the pay like? What types of trucks do they use? Day cab or sleeper trucks? Do they run local, dedicated, regional or otr? What do they haul? Do they use more than one type of trailer?

They run a mix of sleeper tractors, don't appear to favor one particular make.

They definitely do OTR I see them all over the country. They appear to mainly do food grade tanker as that's what I do which is why I see them all over at many of the same customers I go to.

When I spoke with them years ago I was told it was a “retirement job”. Just drive the truck, no messing with hoses or anything. Pay was low back then though.

I liked Indian River better from what I Gathered from talking with drivers up north when I was hauling milk.

The Bynum driver I spoke to said to stay at IRT and that he was looking to leave for a small home weekly operation.

That's how it is where I am now. Many customers I go to don't even want you to get out of the tractor. The most I have ever done is climb up to cut a seal and of course check they closed the hatch securely.

Rate of pay is decent, but I am very unsatisfied with the miles...and all the sitting around.

I’m quickly becoming a bit of a malcontent where I’m at. They changed they way that we are paid. We’re only paid for on duty or driving time now. This week will be the second in a row that I’m unable to do a Friday load due to being low on hours. I’ll only reset at home. My dispatcher asked me if I wanted to stay out. I wanted to call and laugh at him. All of this added to the fact that I was hired to be local and home every night, yep it’s pretty much time to move on.

    Redtwin Thanks this.

IRT is great were it not for the miles and not paying for drop hooks or detention after 2hrs as other companies do. Trucks are well equipped, pull very good, shop guys are great, no cameras and they can go the speed limit in almost every state, etc. Also I have yet to pull a junky trailer and I can go for days without hearing from dispatch.

If I didn't have a financial goal I am trying to reach I wouldn't consider other companies but I'm going to give it 6 months here then see what else is out there. Hopefully miles pick up by then.
