What's Califs law on flashers .

There's no California Vehicle Code that states if your vehicle is traveling under 40mph pulling a grade that your hazards need to be on.

In actuality, it's against the California Vehicle Code to have your hazards on except in an emergency, and pulling a grade does not constitute an emergency.

Just because you haven't been cited by the CHP for having your hazards on in a non-emergency situation doesn't mean you won't be cited in the future.

Yes, I have heard of drivers getting cited in California for having their hazards on pulling a grade, that's why I don't use them unless it's an emergency.

There's plenty of truck drivers that drive above the 55mph speed limit in California and have had a CHP unit pass them by, or get hit with a radar gun from a unit sitting on the side of the road but didn't receive a ticket, (including myself) but it doesn't mean it's legal, and it doesn't mean you won't receive a ticket for speeding the next time it happens.

Also if someone runs into the back of your trailer while you're pulling a grade, it's not going to be your fault regardless if you had your hazards on or not.

Great points. I was told in CDL school not to use flashers on California mountains because it's not legal, but haven't seen it in writing before.

if you have some time look up Dick Simon Trucking accidents litigation. There's 3 accidents that a car rear ended the Simon truck. The plaintiffs lawyers in all 3 used the fact that the driver did not have his 4-way flashers on showing he was a possible "HAZARD" on the road because he was traveling at slow speed. On a side note if you've never heard of Dick Simon that's a good story. I wish Mikes Book Club would do one of his biography stories on "Sweet Simon"

Yes, that's true. But had the truck driver been not wearing a seat belt or wearing sunglasses later than necessary that would have been the lawyers argument. The question was about CA law, not about what lawyers say before they sue.

This is true. I met a so call driver at a High School Homecoming parade float we were during at halftime, we circle around the football field and each class for that year the float is decorates the trailer. Anyways..... this driver I met, he and I got to talking...... found out that right from a local truck driving school, they made him a “Trainer” without being on the road period. He passed all his test including drivers, and went straight to training...... “Go figure”....... I was like, “you got to be kidding”...... I walked away.....
