Hey, y'all I plan on starting a fleet. What's a good average price per mile rate to pay OTR drivers/team drivers? From what I've seen .30-.45 is good for new drivers or is that a bit high?
What's a good pay per mile rate?

30 is really low 45 is pretty high. I'd say a good starting number is 40. Don't go less than that if you're brand new with no experience. With 5 years of experience add 5-7 cents per mile to that number. I'll have a year in June and already been offered a job paying 46cpm in unrestricted trucks. I qualify to start in June, as I need 1 year of experience to work there.

I think it depends on what you are hauling but say for flat deck I was getting paid 50 cents a mile in Alberta.

how good of a driver do you want should be the question

But then I have over 25 years experience with a perfect safety record and I was offered 43 cents a mile to haul flat deck out of Alberta. I mean truckers are the only people who don't get recognized for their years of experience. The company said we will start you at 43cents
But I am not a new driver and have lots to offer. I think if experienced safe drivers are walking through the door they need to be paid for what they bring to the table.ovosquad Thanks this. -
Good luck finding anyone worth a darn at .30c mile. For a guy with 2+ years and clean record .45c would be what I would start them at.
Being a small company what do you offer that sets you apart from the big mega companies that would make someone want to drive for you. Food for thoughtOldironfan and ovosquad Thank this. -
