What time zone do you log

Drivers do you understand you should be logging on your home terminal time.

Do you know what "home terminal" means? If your home terminal is Indianapolis then you need to be logging Indianapolis, In time. "Most" companies have the home terminal address pre-printed on the log sheet for you which would tell what time zone you need to log. Others might have selections of home terminal addres and some are just cheap and make you fill out the home terminal address. In the last case you need to find out the home terminal address. You should check personally with your log department as noted below to find out what is your home terminal address.

How does that work for receipts such as Toll, scale etc?

Well the log auditor SHOULD look at the receipt and say I need to either add , subtract 1 hour or leave it the same make it Oklahoma time.

When time changes I will post what you need to do in regards to that particular day.

Officers will sometimes write you up for logging the wrong time zone because it makes your logs off by 1 hour or more (if your company allows you 30 minute lee-way, this makes your logs off 1.5 hours in DOT's eyes). They have told my drivers sometimes that you should be logging where you are dispatched out of and that is not TRUE!

A few tips: Make sure you set the watch on the wrist to the time zone you should be logging. It is human nature to look at the watch on your wrist when you want the time, thus causing you to log the wrong time zone. Also try to avoid filling out the log grid part in a truck stop etc. It is also human nature to look at the clock on the wall since it is bigger.
Ok that's about the best tips I can give you on what time zone you should log and tips on how to avoid getting messed up.
The biggest thing is make sure you do not leave 1 hour earlier while on your 10 hour break. I have seen this done as well and driver so happened got pulled over that same day. He was as legal as a begal except for that and he did put him out of service



New time zone change dates:

In 2007, daylight time begins on March 11 and ends on November 4.

I do want to add a note thanks to Brickman reminding me: There is some companies that have different divisions and break them down. I was just informed below message that Landstar was different and I beleive CRST might be different, although they had 2 different log departments if I am correct. I believe it would have to be different division situations though, because the reg below states the home terminal in which the logs are maintained etc. See below.

As I can't tell you what time zone to log on, I thought this might help clarify how logs handles the time zone and you should call your log department and ask them They are bored doing logs anyhow.

f)(8) Time base to be used.

(f)(8)(i) The driver's duty status record shall be prepared, maintained, and submitted using the time standard in effect at the driver's home terminal, for a 24 hour period beginning with the time specified by the motor carrier for that driver's home terminal

 

I will edit my post! Yeah I wanted to note something about different situations as in Lease operations. I am not to familiar with that and how it works, but I do have a small clue.

Yeah having the same time zone usually helps allot! The cell phones are great for the local time deliveries etc.

Yeah make sure you talk with them! Maybe they knew your state and the time zones are the same so to make it simple they just told you to log your home time. Possible i guess, I never look at the drivers state where they live since half the time it is never right in the computer.
