Hey guys, we just failed a inspection because our drive and left steer shocks need replacements. I have a few questions.
1) How common is this issue?
2) How hard is it to replace them yourself?
3) What manufacture of shocks would you recommend?
4) Who has the shock at the best price?
Thanks a lot.
What shocks would you recommend?

I replace steer axle shocks every year. All others every 18-24 months. Usually buy Monroe Gas Magnum from Napa. Have a torch handy if it's been awhile, they may need some encouragement to come off.

I replace when they leak or when I get new tires. I go with oem on my fleet.

I use gabriel SLX shocks. They have a 200k. Warranty and they are adjustable. Have really good luck with them over the last 10 years. Only one shock failure and took it back with receipt and got a new one free of charge. Oh and do make life easy on yourself, use anti seize on bolts keeps them from seizing in the eyes of the shock. I do this almost immediately on a new trk along with the cab shocks as the mfg's don't do this on the assembly line.
truckthatpassesyouby and AModelCat Thank this. -

Steer shocks when I have new steer tires put on and OEM .
The rest around 250k. -
Omg 200k?
We replace them at 150k no matter what.
When the shock is cold after driving, it is time to replace them.
Steers are easy, drives are a pain.
